I've just stuck half-time bets on for there to be six goals (3/1) or more than 6 goals (11/1). Good open game, lot of attacking play, defences leaking like sieves. Prob more goals to come. And if not, heigh-ho, already got the 2-1 correct score backed earlydoors

Ps Can someone explain the rule to me again? Klose is fouled and Pepe earns a yellow card. He is allowed to remain on the field, but Klose had to wait to be ushered on. Now why should the team that fouled have an advantage of one man, albeit for a short space of time? Germany were at a disadvantage for their free kick (ignoring the goal).

Good solid display tonight by the Germans.

I'm quite happy as one of my mates had £10 on France and £10 on Portugal, where as I have my £5 on Holland :)

the german team is f***ing MASSIVE
Agreed. That Philip Lahm is a titchy Teuton TITAN.

Blimey, that was (genuinely) emotional.

I didn't write the following; someone on the WSC message board did. But whoever did write it has somehow been READING MY BRAIN:

"This German team are not the stuff of cliche that is still being portrayed a lot on here. They are not a bunch of ubermen, totally convinced in their own infallibility. The old, "efficient" German team died finally, gracefully, at the 2002 World Cup Final, having been terminally ill since 1996.

This German team doesn't believe they are great. The German Public doesn't believe they are great. Before the tournament in 2006 nobody believed they had a chance, and I very much doubt anyone who seriously knows about football would have seen them as favourites before this tournament. But supporting Germany has actually become fun, cool even, because they are are an honest team that gives everything. and from what I have learnt of the Germans in the past few years, they deserve all the success they get, because I haven't seen another country with a better attitude towards football, anywhere."

Why can't England be like that? Rather than everyone saying where going to win everything piss-easily and always made joint-favourites.

I do not really understand how Germany were pre-tournament favourites.

Granted the side of the draw they are on is easier. However at the back they seem to have the same issues they had 7 years ago when England somewhat beat them, ie they do not have much quality or pace.

In fairness to Klinnsman and Low (who seems to have been the brains behind the last World Cup), they were more than aware of this and so changed the style to a far more attacking game and also replaced Kahn with Lehman on the basis he is lunatic enough to almost play as a sweeper. However teams seem to have once again worked out that Germany have a sluggish centre pairing and will expose this.

Having said all this, watch the Germans win tonight and keep a clean sheet...

Dont understand how they were favourites? First up they walked their group and qualified something like 270 days before the tournament. Whilst their two centre halfs and goalie are a tad creaky they do have a great team with an excellent blend of power, strength, speed, technique and something ansent from England...imagination. The have two good full backs, a host of options in midfield and a few options up front. Gomez is a good player but for some reason he has lost form. It will return. Podolski and Klose are class. Ballack is brilliant. Sweini is a great player to. I also think Lahm is up there in the top tier of world defenders.

No team has perfection all the way through....every team has a few flaws...some more than others.

Whilst I dont consider myself an expert on German football I have taken a keen interest in the German national team and I was and am still adamant they will do well at this tournament. They will get to the final...and with some luck they will win it. Dont be fooled by poor performances...they tend to play well when they need to and are always there or there abouts.

I also have put my money where my mouth is and will win a tidy sum if they win Euro2008...or the EM as they call it.

I do not understand how they are favourites when their defence is so poor. However Klinsman and Low have recognised this and the last 2 tournaments they have played a far more attacking game.

However the draw to this tournament is such that they will avoid Holland, Spain or Italy until the final.

Someone had to be favourites. Who else would you have considered before the tournament started?

Probably Italy, but they were in that group and on the harder side of the draw.

Without sounding like Alan Hanson, the defences in this tournament have been poor, but it has meant that teams have generally played higher up the pitch, which in turn has led to quite an attacking tournament.
