I agree with the pace thing, not sure it's true what you say about his passing. At Chelsea he just has to play it to the defensive midfielder but as far as I can tell his passing is fine, as good as Kings.

I like Ferdinand, just not sure he is the crux on which that defence should be built. Still think if him and terry could click that would be awesome. I actually rate Woodgate, King, Terry and Ferdinand and find it hard to seperate them as they all have slightly different strengths. I will admit that if it wasn't for his injury problems Woodgate would be my first choice as he has everything.

I agree with you on Woodgate.

What I would say about Ferdinand is that he tends to play better against the better teams. There have been question marks regarding his concentration and this does sometimes show agains the poorer sides. Same to an extent with Ashley Cole.

I think one of the big differences we had last night was a striker that can score goals. Owen did very little during the game, but took his chance, much like Lineker used to.

In games that Owen has been out, we have had one of Johnson, Defoe or Bent running around a bit, without looking like doing much (I know Defoe got a couple against Andorra).

I think one of them can do it. For me Bent as the youngest needs to be given a run, sometimes it takes players a while to click at this level.

I agree. Strangely if Woodgate was fit, against the best teams I would play him and Ferdinand. Against the poorer teams I would put him with Terry or King.

Often think against the poorer teams Ferdinand gets dragged into the wrong areas due to lack of concentration and then the rest of the defence is in trouble.

How about;

--------------Robinson-------------
--------------Ferdinand------------
Neville--Woodgate--Terry--Cole
-----------------King----------------
---Gerrard-Hargreaves-Cole----
----------------Rooney--------------

We will never conceed.

I can see no reason to change the central defensive partnership as it is now. Ferdinand and Terry have proven themselves to be reliable on almost every occasion they have played together. I think would be foolish to meddle with the one area of the England side that actually works well. Barring injury, I can't see any reason to look beyond them, although Woodgate, King and Carragher are excellent deputies to have.
