Am looking at a straight house exchange with cash payment, do I have to have HIPS pack or pay stamp duty?

The land registry wont register the property in your name until the stamp duty is paid

Go to the Estate Agent in the morning as they now stare out of the window in the afternoon.

stamp duty MUST be paid on the conveyance of land in order for the land registry to register the title, but there are ways to reduce on a property swap as Hiney has suggested....

what is the point in going to an estate agent ??? they probably wont have a clue anyway - instruct a solicitor, anybody who tries to do a conveyance without one is mad, it will be £250-£300 well spent in my eyes.

somthing doesn't seem right about that. just that one press release a quick google show nothing else about it. interesting though, will need futher investigation

frankly they should abolish stamp duty, its an shitty tax. they even admitted as much by 0 rating it for lower value properties.
