Was anyone there when Eric Steele & Gary Williams tried to kick the shit out of each other in front of the Stretford End during the game ??. If so, what caused it ????????:glare:

I think a mix up between the two of them led to a corner at the Stretford End, can't remember which one threw the first punch but it was quite amusing! I don't think Eric played for the Albion again, although I could be wrong. Personally I always prefered him to Moseley but we were lucky enough to have two good keepers at the time.

Eric was the better keeper, but Mullery had it in for him from then onwards.

Graham Moseley went on to be the lead singer in Sparks I believe.

Mullery bought him back for one game against Leeds (I think) when Moseley got ill or put his hand through another plate glass window or something. He got a great welcome from the North Stand.

Witnessed that from the away end and to this day cannot believe that neither got sent off. As KS said it was as i remember over a corner that had been given away and lack of calling for the ball.

yes - that was a memorable day indeed. I was in the stretford end and got sussed by the manks. Not very comfortable but I'd had about 10 pints of Boddingtons at lunchtime and didnt care. Eric Steele was a true albion legend.

Eric runs his own goalkeeping school in the Midlands. He also works with Villa and England.

Top coach, top bloke.

He is the new Man City goalkeeping coach though. Announced on SSN on Tuesday.

That's pretty much how I remember it as well. I think we lost 2-0. The other thing is people moan about how our away support has gone down this year. Well that was our first visit to Old Trafford, it was a Saturday and there were only about 100 Brighton fans there. Well that's what it seemed like.

PS - This, the York City/Brian Clough thread and all the other 70s nostalgia ones make me realise I've paid my dues over the years and although I'm not a STH any more I damm well deserve to be in front of people like Beach Hut in the queue for West Ham tickets. I'm sure every one will agree with me.

There were a lot at Old Trafford in the first season, but then the away attendances started to drop off alarmingly. Combination of seeing us lose, travel issues, agro and the fact that we were a small fish in a big pond.

I can remember Stuart Hall taking the piss one season on the radio in Div 1 when about 80 of us turned up at Maine Road, so see the Albion get dicked 4-0 and Trevor Francis give one of the best one man shows against us ever.

You bloody star!
I've been trying to remember for ages an album my brother used to play when we were kids - I loved it! All I could remember was there were two blokes by a plane on the album cover, and my brother didn't remember.

Da-dah .... it was Sparks! Minimal research and the album was "Indiscreet." Cheers fella, that's splendid.

From where I was sitting I'd say that there were more than 100 fans there that day.

There were a fair few of us in the main stand with the Man U fans (not their animals obviously - they were standing in the paddock to our right and your left).

It did relate to a mix-up over a corner, to the amusement of the OT crowd. We lost 2-0 and United went top of the league. Of course they didn't win the league that year - Liverpool always did!

Oh and I agree that Mullery and Moseley didn't get on. We used to have the odd pint with GM and Gerry Ryan in HH.

Moseley couldn't stand Mullers. He also confirmed that the team hated the Palace team (Jim Canon et al) as much as we did!

Yeah, I was exagerrating a bit. Funny, I was talking to a mate of mine about this incident not so long ago and I asked him how many Brighton fans were there and he replied "Dunno, just you and me wasn't it? That's what it felt like."

Well I saw a Brighton fan arrested in the first half. Was that you or your mate? :lolol:

I know we didn't wear colours that day. Mind you in those days we very rarely did!
