Loved the sheer enthusiasm of his play, his evident love of what he was doing. Made me laugh a few times along the way too. Players like this don't come along too often but they tend to stick in your head a long time.

Such sad news to see a brilliant career cut short. I hope Enock's future is healthy and happy, and hopefully involves Brighton in some way. But maybe he'll prefer something in Zambia. Whatever it is I'll be rooting for him, along with thousands of BHA fans.

Yeah. Who knows. Maybe Mwepu's is worse / different to Eriksen's problem? After all, as far as I can tell from the coverage, he got ill while on a flight. Not in the middle of a match. So maybe that suggests it's more serious? I don't know, I'm not a cardiologist.

Or maybe Mwepu is just not willing to risk it? I can't say I'd blame him.

I am not sure why Eriksson was able to receive an ICD whereas Mwepu (apparently) is not. I suspect your explanation may well be correct, and I agree.

Such sad news for a talented and well rounded young dude that he is. Always came across as genuine and really seemed to love the game and his fans. Health comes first though and totally understand his decision. Was a hero for Zambians around the world, and quite sure will have no problem finding a job in the sport he loves, either with the Albion or back home in Zambia.

We all love you Enock and you will forever be a Seagull. Stay strong friend.

Pretty certain none of us know the specific condition that has afflicted Mwepu so impossible for anyone to compare his situation with that of Eriksen.

There is a terrific opportunity here to get Enock through his coaching badges and funding a BHA Southern Africa Academy and allowing him to run it, based in Zambia. Literally millions of young kids looking for their chance to live out their dreams, what's not to like.

I have suffered over 60 of these heart related arrhythmias, so, I understand how bad it can be. I have also had my heart stop for a short period. I do find a little bit of humour does relieve the understandable stress of the situation.

What was the operation, if you don't mind my asking?

I had some terrible arrhythmia episodes when I was 17. They did a cardiac ablation and that sorted me right out.

Interestingly when they were investigating the arrhythmia problem they discovered a separate heart condition (bicuspid valve) that would have gone entirely unnoticed otherwise.

Mine was an ablation as well.
I’ve had 2, as the first one didn’t work, in fact I got more shocks after it than before. The first one was the first time that operation had been performed on anyone in the UK for my particular problem. The Surgeon was flown in from the States to do it.
The second one seems to have worked, so far. Although, I could go back to getting shocks at any time.

We may indeed have cardiological colleagues here on NSC, but there's no evidence of any of them posting - and even if they did, unless they were directly involved or knew the surgeons involved, they wouldn't know exactly what the players' conditions were. So all we're left with is speculation.
Perhaps it should just be left that presumably whatever treatment was suitable for Eriksen wasn't sutable for Enock.

There’s more than just Enock to consider with it being diagnosed as a hereditary condition. Mwepu's younger brother Francisco, 22, is also a professional footballer for Austrian side Sturm Graz. I should imagine he’ll have tests as well.

These tests have concluded that his illness is due to a hereditary cardiac condition, which manifests later in life and was not previously evident on regular cardiac screening. Sadly this can be exacerbated by playing sport so Enock has been advised that the only option, for the sake of his own safety, is for him to stop playing football.

Adam continued, “Of course, given this is Enock’s career and a decision which can’t be taken lightly we have taken our time to be as thorough as possible, completed advanced cardiac investigations and collaborated with clinical experts to gain the best second opinions for Enock.

“We will be helping him make sure the condition is managed with the appropriate treatment for him to otherwise live a long and healthy life.’”

Oh wow, I had no idea they sometimes don't work. Must be quite cool, in a weird way, to have a hotshot surgeon fly in to treat you.

A bit worrying that he would fall ill on a plane trip when a heart wouldn't seem to be on any kind of strain unlike playing football for 90 minutes.
