The work of Enid Blyton has been linked to "racism and xenophobia" in updated blue plaque information by English Heritage.

The world has gone mad IMO.
Surely this is historic and of a time when such feelings and thoughts were the order of the day, excepted and never really concerned anyone.

As for English Heritage saying on their website, that she lacked literary merit.
What about the millions of her books sold worldwide.

Absolutely barmy :shootself IMO

People have been saying that since at least the early 1970s though. You can't pin this on woke snowflakes.

Shouldn't this be on the GB News thread?

Indeed, especially seeing that the OP has been so outraged, they have seemingly failed to read the article!

"The information goes on to explain how an article in The Guardian in 1966 noted the racism of her book, The Little Black Doll. The children's short story tells the tale of a doll named "Sambo" who is only accepted by his owner once his "ugly black face" is washed "clean" by the rain."

I have a 1930s Rupert the Bear annual in which Rupert visits N***** Island, and brings home a c*** who preferred to sleep in the barn than in a bed in the house.

If we judged all historical figures by the morals of today, then there would be no great people in history left.

She was judged on the morals of 'her' day as in 1960 as the article cites:

Blyton's publisher Macmillan in 1960 refusing to publish her story The Mystery That Never Was for what it called its "faint but unattractive touch of old-fashioned xenophobia".

That was her own publisher in 1960!

I must admit I am surprised by this thread, given that the OP is not typically associated with 'political correctness gone mad' rants

What gives? ???

And decades before that the BBC had deemed her work as second-rate and lacking literary merit. Bloody snowflakes.

No not outraged, just amazed at how people from an earlier time, are brought into todays social media society, so they can tut quite loudly in a polite sort of way.
I did read the article :)

Think she had one manuscript passed over in 1960 for being a little, shall we say, behind the times.
