On August 30 (Bank Holiday Monday).
Anti-fascists meeting at Brighton station at 12noon to demonstrate against them.
All that will happen is a few members of the public will pass a police van or two, remark to each other that there is a few police in brighton, they will then go about their day. It may be noticed that a few students have gathered on a patch of grass outside the King & Queen and if you peek inside the archway of the pub yuo may see some fat racists swilling watered down lager and again, carry on with your day. No-one will give a toss, most people have better things to do.
I dislike the way that anyone who might oppose this group is painted as a leftie, and by implication from the far left.
I get confused with all these Fascist groups and there continual name changing.
This is nothing more than a hors d'oeuvres the real fascists have indicated that they are marching in October.
However odious this group of Nationalists they will cause less disruption for Brightonians than the violent pacifists that travel from all over the country for the Smash EDO marches.
It used to be far more difficult keeping up with the farcical activities of the far left however. Sussex University used to be hotbed for middle class students going through their rebellious phase, before they got down to making money like mummy and daddy. I remember in the seventies various drips outside the Student Union selling different left-wing papers, which quickly turned into a slanging match "Pythonesque Judean Peoples Front" style!
Many of these marxist webels are now successful in the city, the professions and indeed wait for it "business and finance"! They do keep in touch with their roots however, every year the old whistle is hung up in June and its down to Glasto to sample the alternative culture via the Barclays cashpoint.
As Johnny Rotten looks out from his palatial residence in the USA, while checking his investments in the FT and counting his royalties from butter adverts, he at least realises it was all and of course still is "The Great Rock & Roll Swindle". While laughing all the way to the bank. Now where's my designer Che T shirt?!
Yes, I'm sure that Timmy and his mates from the Con club would love to join in. I doubt that many Lib Dems or New Labour will turn up either.
Which just goes to show how little you know. The rather formidable lady who lives opposite me has attended protests against these marches in the past. She is in her 60's and a conservative councillor.
