We have 5 days to turn this series around.

Bell Out, Shah in - having his Middlesex teammate in the side in the top order will give Strauss a lift.

Panesar out, Rashid in - Monty's been under-performing for too long and being 0-100 before you get you first wicket when they're on 320 and their guy got 4-for is unacceptable. A bit of youthful exuberance might help, maybe give Broad someone to bond with.

The rest keep their places, but Harmison HAS to deliver in this next test.

I feel the problems are root and branch but Giles Clarke has been an absolute disaster as ECB chairman; losing a coach and captain before the tour is shambolic.

Strauss is NOT the long-term solution as captain - his own form is too erratic and he's too laid back, not enough fire in the belly. The longer Vaughan and Key stay on the sidelines the higher their stock rises.

Credit to the Windies though, their bowling was excellent and it is a shot in the arm for the game in the Caribbean.

The only positive to be drawn is that our present predicament should sort out the wheat from the chaff in terms of Ashes selection.

I'd say that only Pietersen, Flintoff and Sidebottom are guaranteed a place in that First Test if fully fit, so to have 8 players scratching for form is not good. The qualities of Vaughan, Jones and Hoggard are lacking in this side, i.e. tenacity, steel, aggression.

Vaughan is a shit batsman, but apart from that.
