Anything is worth a try as we must be set to lose this test from here the problem of course is Root as captain. Unless of course we can chip away at the other batsmen and Kuhli runs out of partners but that didnt work too well in the 1st innings.

Despite all the chuntering about selection, batting, bowling, captaincy...if we'd just held some of those catches we've put down, we'd have won this comfortably.

We need to start chirping away ball far too quiet

Drifting away from us now. We need a couple of wickets with Kohli being one of them.

Unfortunately the captain doesn't appear to like to attempt to make things happen preferring them to run their course.

IMHO he is a poor captain and the captaincy has affected his batting but perhaps he will learn and get better.

He just lets things drift, there no one imposing themselves, no chat towards the batsmen, no energy and he always keeps bowlers on too long until they're are knackered.

Change it man ffs. Try something you're going to lose, hello!

Been the way of England since Michael Vaughan. Happy memories of bewildered commentators not even having a name for field settings, in attempts to create a chance. Since Andrew Strauss England have played a statistical data game with captaincy, pre-programmed with weaknesses identified behind the scenes and unable to react with gut instinct and inventiveness in the field. There is a sense of not taking risks in the field but all too easily done with the bat.

I had hoped Root would evolve from Cook's arguably success, but equally mundane captaincy. Not just in the field either, we do not seem to be going out to bat with a real plan of partnerships, responsibility and leadership. In English conditions, this game should have been done and dusted for England, even against a decent India team. We might still win it which would be great, especially for motm Curran, but there are real problems under the surface.

Anyway back to the action, Anderson gets a wicket in the first over!

Sadly it isn't Kohli but let's not be churlish.

113-6
