England vs. Croatia - Official Thread

Simster I honestly think we will achieve nothing until this sort of attitude is frowned upon, can you imagine for instance, the aussie cricket side with the likes of mcgrath and co coming out with that before a major tournament ? their feet wouldnt touch the ground before they were dumped from the side, success at any tournament is WINNING it, nothing less.

But that Aussie side you are talking about was streets ahead of the competition. The Aussie football team don't turn up at the World Cup talking about winning it, do they?

We have one of the best 10 teams in the world, but it is not the best. Probably top 8, so we'd be underachieving if we don't make the last 8 (unless we get a horrible draw). Beyond that, anything is an 'achievement'.

ok, the present aussie cricket side, if they turned up for the last ashes series, saying that a draw overall so that they retained the ashes would be a success, then i doubt they'd play for australia again, its a winning mentality, the same sort of mentality that forces mcgrath to predict a 5-0 series win each time, their success wasnt totally down to being better than the opposition, attitude and will to win played a part too, jimmy anderson was quoted before the final test of this ashes series saying that " we wont see it as a failure if we dont win the ashes, not many players have even been in a position to win them", f***ing unbelievable.

Not that this comes as any surprise, given the DRIVEL you spout regularly on other topics, but I really don't get your point.

McGrath once again made himself look a total cock, with his overly optimistic predictions. The post-playing McGrath is a great example of the unhelpfulness of unrealistic expectation.

And as for Jimmy A's comments - they were made with the series stood 1-1 after 4 tests. I don't think many sane folk would disagree with his assessment, that the team had not 'failed' in the series, even if they only drew the fifth test.

Not that this comes as a total surprise , given the amount of times you've made yourself look a total COCK in other posts, but congratulations, you've done it again......wanker.

T'was up there myself too last night, and have to agree with what's been said by the others who were.

Even up in the top tier above the Croats the atomos was superb. Only thing that got on my nerves were those crappy clapper things. They were really doing my head in, why the FA need to think we needed help to create an atmosphere with what was at stake (and combined with the Croats) I don't know.

Fair play to Croatia too, started the second half playing 3-3-4 when they had the ball.

Only 'picky' bit from England was Gerrard on the left. Too many times coming in to the middle causing Rooney to drift out wide to 'fill in' taking him out of the game.

Also to the moaners at the start of the thread going on about Defoe starting instead of Heskey. Look at it this way: Defoe starts with Rooney, leaving Heskey and Crouch on the bench. We need to change the game, who's going to do it from those two? At least with Defoe on the bench, with his pace, we have someone who can.

why does everyone lick Brasil's ass all the time - they ain't that good....they might
be able to juggle a ball - but they can't defend and their overall passing is crap.....

I used to love Brasil - in the early early 70's and early 80's we should have been
scared...but not any longer.......

Kaka, Robinho - blah de blah de blah - they've listened to their own hype too
much.
