No green covering really, looks similar to the Edgbaston pitch fairly dry and looks a good batting surface, what happened to groundsmen producing wickets to give home advantage eh?
The moneymen nobbled them. 3-day Test matches cost a lot of money in refunds!

Aussies probably would have batted. They tend to unless there is good reason not to. At Lords they felt bowling first was the best idea in what was to be a shortened match. They had the confidence England had here.
Michael Vaughan said he'd have batted too. It looks like a good pitch, Root has put his faith in the weather rather than the pitch

Not sure that there is any home advantage except the usual swinging conditions with the Duke. Both teams have matching disciplines. What suits us suits them.
The ECB don't instruct on wickets. They shouldn't. That said, away series wins seem less common these days.

Really interesting masterclass with Mitchell Johnson, didn’t catch it the first time. Sangakkara is superb, great player and comes across as a really knowledgable decent bloke.

During the first test there was a point where they handed over from him and Michael Atherton to Shane Warne and Ian Botham. It was like someone taking away your glass of fine claret and replacing it with a dog bowl full of White Lightning.
