A team typically plays to the image of the coach, for Southgate that = drab, boring and risk averse.
However whoever the coach is they would face the same problem - Kane. I’m not sure there’s a more overrated ‘super’ striker in international football. Tonight he was at his absolute worst, insisting on dropping deep, no pace, attempting ridiculous flicks or through balls when he just needs to keep a ball moving. Then when ‘the chance’ finally arrives he absolutely fucks it up. Flat track bully, NEVER turns up when really needed, restricts how England (and Spurs) can play, should have been hooked, Wilson would run the channels at least.

Almost spat my beer out when Southgate said he was pleased with how we played out from the back. 🤣🤣
The bloke is so far off the pace of today's game.

That Southgate was a pile of smelly turd

Brighton factually.....
It's disappointing, but ultimately it isn't that big in the grand scheme of things and we'll very likely get through. Netherlands and Ecuador don't have much between them so there's not much riding on winning the group anyway.

Wonder if we'd set up differently had Wales got a result
You had me until there…

No we would not have set up any differently.
Because Southgate is tactically inept, he is a chancer, boring safe pair of hands with no imagination or intelligence to read the game beyond the half way line.
Beating Iran was a given, the USA where ok, good but come the feck on, we should be man for man beating them, it’s either a lack of man management or motivation and game management AGAIN !!

Southgate is a a fraud, a puppet, a safe pair or hands for the English FA, he failed us as a player, twice in major tournaments and now this…

I hope wales beat us and we get knocked out.

At tea-time tonight I surmised that it would likely be a dull game, as a point would do for both teams, who would be expected to win their last group game and go through - so there would be limited energy and mainly trying not to lose.

Did we really expect anything different for the middle game in a group that we will almost certainly top?

Not sure what you're getting at as a Flat Track Bully would dominate an inferior side such as the USA... Rather to me it seems Kane is tired and also shouldn't have played so soon after getting a foot injury against Iran.

Tired? It’s f***ing November. If players were crying about being tired for their clubs in November they’d get slaughtered. The tiredness impact of this WC will be felt in April/May.
No he’s doing what he did 18 months ago, playing when not 100% because to Harry Kane the most important thing is Harry Kane.

No, he's playing because he's been picked, like everyone else would. When we were under pressure and the ball came out to him, he generally held it up well. Kane has been a great player for England, could still succeed in this tournament, and using him as a scapegoat is ridiculous.

We improved when the subs came on. I (and I imagine most) thought they should have come on earlier.

I don't think he picks himself though does he? That's your man Southgate. And come on ex players say all the time they've played when not fully fit because of fomo and IT'S THE WORLD CUP. Only Southgate is to blame for Kane playing today. And Conte to blame for resting other players and not Kane (and of course they're tired with the pre WC fixture overload).

If England play Ecuador I will not be supporting England
What a bloody weird way of thinking. I don't get some on this board. Why would anyone support another country over their own, just because some of our clubs players play for them.

As much as I love the Ecuador contingent, this whole anti-English nonsense on here is grating on me big time. I just don't get it.

Southgate is a bloody idiot. I find him probably the most frustrating England manager we've ever had. So much attacking talent and his tactics and coaching style get us playing like that against an opposition whom yes, were good, but we really should be beating with the players we have. I find it astonishing that he sets us up like that and then makes the subs he makes. It's baffling. He can be a very good tournament manager and has done well with us, but in the games where we need to make something of them, he decides to do this. But it's more than just these matches.

cant really see why he's taken Foden if he wont play him. like not playing Gerrard or Gascoigne. im not a Henderson knocker but knew where this was heading when he came on, just as we needed some energy to spark the game to life.
We actually played some football when Henderson came on, he got the more creative first11/subs into the game. Until then the US controlled the ball and game.

Foden plays far further upfield, he should’ve started, perhaps instead of Mount.
