No great surprises this morning... Eoin Morgan gets the sixth batting berth ahead of Ravi Bopara... and it's raining.

The next inspection will take place at 11:10. The scene in Cardiff is "pretty miserable" according to Aggers on TMS.

Right on cue, the British Summer has arrived. after the driest spring since er, the last one. Next time there is an expected drought we will have to remember to schedule a Test Match to coincide.

BBC weatherwoman Helen Willetts: "Not great news, we've got low pressure sat over the country. It's a showery picture for the rest of the morning and well into the afternoon, and some of them will be heavy. There will be an easing of showers in the afternoon, but we will continue to see some interruptions. The best chance of some cricket is this evening..."

Sri Lanka have won the toss and Dilshan has decided to have a bat first.

"There's a bit of weather around, a bit of moisture in the wicket and it's not a bad toss to lose by any means," says England skipper Andrew Strauss.

And with that, it starts RAINING again.

Update: Play has been resheduled to start at 15:30, with 48 overs to be bowled, and tea will be taken at 16:40.

Then again, it might just rain some more. :nono:

With all that rain and sitting around doing sweet FA and the fans who paid top dollar for a ticket, is it really necessary to take tea 1 hour or so into the start of the game after 4 hours or so wating. Sometimes you do wonder about cricket and it's unnecessary at times, idiosyncrasies.

I know what you mean, and 48 overs without a break is what they do in an ODI, but that's just how they format a days Test cricket. They would have to have an early tea at 15.10 to give them a full unbroken 48 hours.

Totally agree, it needs a team of Common Sense to run through the rule book and change all the complete crapness, tons of it needs to be changed.
