Not the most thrilling batsman you will ever see, but what a run machine.

Wonder how many he will end up with? 14,000? 15,000?

Time's on his side, but it also depends on how long he wants to go on for, I guess. Being away from home for months at a time takes its toll, and must be harder still for those with young families, as he has. Then again, you only get one, short, career I guess. Can't see him quitting just yet, but I saw an article by an Australian journalist recently suggesting he thought Cook would finish up before the next Ashes series. Might have been wishful thinking on his part...

Would have thought utter wishful thinking. Cook rather likes batting in Australia. I was out there in 2010-11 when he averaged 127...

Compton will be gutted... Hales out for 11 :nono:

35-1

He can only fail really... not that it will make a huge amount of difference... 13 first class scores under 50 and counting, 1 score over 50 in last 17 Test innings?

Test matches: 15 matches, 733 runs at 29.32

Also, only the second opening batsman to make it to 10,000 runs. The other being Sunil Gavaskar and he did it 30 years ago.

England 80-1 Cook 47*, win by 9 wickets

And take unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series with one to play.

8-0 in the 'Super series'
