That is a hugely controversial moment... to me that hit the fingers, but after the glove left the handle.

Why start a test series in the middle of August?

I'd have thought an important series like us v SA would have been 4/5 tests long.

Blame the current system where every team has to play each other home and away as soon as possible. Factor in the extra form of the game in T20 and the shoehorning in of a pointless 1 day series against Australia and boom, the days of a one team, 5 or 6 Test summer are long gone.

I agree, I think it's a great toss to lose.

Lords pitches often offer the most assistance on day 1, and the slightly humid conditions today may well add to that. Then we have excellent weather forecasted for teh weekend, and the Lords pitches aren't traditionally ones you worry about batting last on. If anything, we've seen them go flat and slow by day 5, making batting quite easy.

Assitance from pitch and weather conditions on day 1, help us to get a strong hold on the game, followed by us batting for 2 days in prime conditions is probably our best chance of setting up a winning position. Put us in and have us 3 down by lunch in swinging conditions, and teh series would have been over.
Can you give me 6 numbers between 1 and 49 for the weekend please.....

Christ they are going to have to get a wriggle on if they are going to fit all that in.

You'd have thought the powers that be would have used the months of June and July.

If this had been a 5 test series we'd be reaching the midpoint with everything bubbling up nicely.

I think the ICC need to rethink the test programme because there's now a decent chance the series will be drawn and that will be inconclusive, a bit like having a season of FA Cup football with the Final ending in a draw with no penalties and no replay.

Rudolph 41* and Duminy 21* see South Africa to tea on 151-5, definitely a better session for SA, losing just the one wicket.
