Belgium and Russia beat this lot 9-0 in the Euro Qualifiers. Even Scotland beat them 6-0.

Embarrassing from Southgate and a complete waste of time for everyone.

I liked it.

Me too - can only play what’s put in front of you. Playing a number of fringe players emphasised the attacking talents we have at our disposal. No Kane / Rashford / Grealish / Sancho. Really sorted in attacking areas - just need a quality CM - maybe Henderson can do it as he fits the bill and has done it for Liverpool on the biggest stage. Main issue is centre back and keeper for me. Think Dunk would be a great fit - like Coady - Maguire has gone a bit backwards but still decent enough and Stones has hit form. Confident we’ll make the semis of the Euros which will be progress and fairly successful.

Maybe the little nations need a separate qualifying group / comp now though as it is too one sided to enjoy as a competitive game of football - but Poland next week will be a big test. Since the Euro 2008 shambles we’ve qualified really well and comfortably for all tournaments so credit where it’s due.

I do miss proper debate about positions and improvements with England threads on here. It’s always a case of who can write a sentence to prove they didn’t watch it or care the most and it’s a little sad to see.

Anyway, covid is being defeated, Albion are doing better / well and we have a 2 week break until a free hit at Old Trafford - plenty to be positive about people :)

I didn't watch the game, was watching the Allen v. Farrow documentary, but after that finished tried to catch up on the game via twitter. I follow several football journalists on Twitter, as well as sky sports, bt sports, the premier league and amazon sport. Usually easy to catch up on televised football matches. Barely any comments on the match tonight. A few sarcastic comments ("half time can't come soon enough for nick pope... his phone needs charging"). But no real comments on the how the game played out or whether either team has scored. Remarkable apathy.

Even this thread it's hard to tell who is predicting the score, who is giving a running tally, etc. This was my thought process as I caught up...

Goooooooooal saints scummer.

Oh, we got at least one.

I know we're 3-0 up but it should already be 10 so wondering if our striking coach has been helping out?

Wait, what happened to 2-0?

Guess the score.

11-0

Are we winning 11-0?!

Oh, 11 must have been MB's guess, and we're only 8-0 up at the moment.

Question mark there - that must be a guess. But, aren't we 8-0 up? Is this sarcasm?

San Marino - 1 win in 174 matches and that was a friendly against Liechtenstein 17 years ago.

This match is a farce.

Wait, is this a farce because they somehow got back into it, or just pointless because we're winning so easily

Only 5-0 against San Marino. That isn't good.

Is this a latest score or full time?

Moron Mings picks up a yellow card in the last minute of a 5-0 win. What a prize pollock.

Ah, must be full time.

Think it says something that there are so few posts tracking the score or even discussing the game in general, especially one on ITV that most users would have access to.

That's my kind of attitude.

This match is a farce.

Time to bin these pointless qualifiers and have pre qualifying.

Just a pointless fixture. Surely should be qualifiers amongst poorest teams. Just makes qualifying leagues at this stage a farce. It can be down to who scores most goals

I take it you are also all in favour of a European Super League so the likes of City, Liverpool and Chelsea don't have to waste their time playing bottom feeders like...

...Brighton.

Brighton went through a qualification of sorts to get the the PL via promotion

You wouldn’t put a load of part timers in the PL

I am completely against a European Super League, but I do get that Brighton are a fully professional club that have beaten Liverpool on a number of occasions and are competitive.

There is no evidence that in the 30 years they've been competing as a nation San Marino have got any better as a result of playing the other nations, including the big boys.

The FA Cup is the greatest and oldest football cup competition in the world, and there is a reason the big boys don't enter the competition until Round 3. San Marino has the same population as Haywards Heath. Would it be right that a club in the South-East Division of the Isthmian League play Man United home and away?

I think there should be qualifying between the smaller nations, if for no other reasons than they might actually stand a chance of winning a game of football.

I get what you're saying but knowing something is shite then complaining it's shite, when the team you're defending is historically shite, just slightly further up the chain, makes little sense.
Why don't Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil & Argentina do away with England, Belgium, Switzerland and the other no mark teams.

It would have been great to have got rid of Iceland before 2016, after all they only have a population the size of Swansea.

The bottom line is we have as much chance of winning a major trophy as San Marino and England qualify for the tournament through exactly the same process.

The way I see England playing San Marino is much the same way as I saw visiting Great Auntie Edie, as a kid.

Sit there, shut up, don't breath through your nose and it'll soon be over.

I think you will find there is qualifying stage before Real Mad, Man city, Liverpool etc enter. Thats why not farce of say Barcelona playing Irish champions in first round

I used to play for Haywards Heath and a two-legged fixture against Man Utd would have been lovely. I'm not sure the Hanbury Stadium is big enough for the number of local Man Utd fans, though.

Which only came about due to a money grab from the big clubs.

That 'farce' happened plenty of times before football was 'invented'.

It looks like you think PL clubs should enter FA cup at same stage as Peacehaven, Lancing etc

In much the same way it looks like you think England are so great they shouldn't be demeaned by playing San Marino.

The smaller footballing nations in Europe should have some sort of promotion/relegation tournaments to play the bigger teams. More fun for them as well.
