Need to talk Trescothick into coming back to open with Cook.

What, the 40 year old Marcus Trescothick with mental health problems who can't tour?

Even by your standards BG that's quite a stretch.

Broad dodges a bullet with less than 5 overs remaining - tight LBW decision goes his way.

Close of play, day two.

England 253-7 (71 overs), trailing by 86

Woakes 31*(73) Broad 11*(33)

A great morning for England... but the afternoon and evening definitely belong to Pakistan, taking 7 wickets lead by Yasir Shah with five.

The match is wide open. And with three days to play, a result one way or the other looks certain.

Some years ago we were struggling against the Aussies so they brought back Brian Close and a man who hadnt played cricket for a couple of years Rev David Shepherd and it worked to solve the immediate problem and give up and coming players time to prepare. and be ready.

Think you will find they bought back Brian Close against the West Indies

Some years ago? It was more than 50 years ago and Sheppard was brought back because he scored a ton for the Gentleman against the Players (that shows how long ago it was). And they weren't struggling against the Aussies, he was brought back against Pakistan (and England were 3-0 up in the series).

And he had not retired from cricket: he was still playing for Sussex - although he hadn't played a test for five years.

Apart from that, you were spot on ...:)

Is Bradman still knocking around? Bojo could offer him English citizenship

Yes sorry got confused it was David Shepherd v Aussies and then did the same v W Indies with Brian Close but surely the same principal, both were very successful, short term.

1.) He can't tour - or would you pick him for home tests only? If so that's pretty unsettling all round and a dangerous precedent
2.) He isn't a well man, would he accept a recall? If yes big difference between county and international and his well past his best.
3.) We recalled Trott & Compton recently to such disastrous effect that both had to pack in cricket completely to get over the mental anxiety of test cricket
4.) it's a really shit idea

That'll be the same Trescothick that's played in every single one of Somerset's County Championship matches this season?

Has he, sorry I thought he had retired and was just coaching now, must admit I dont follow CC div 1 so much now Sussex and 2nd division.
.....still think it would be a backward step if he was to come back

Very important day in this Test match and the series ahead.

England resume on 253-7, trailing by 86 runs on first innings. 3 days to go, and the prospect of confident leg spinner bowling in the 4th innings... who is going to put in the match-winning performance?

I was agog this morning when I saw the latest odds and we're odds on favourites. Pakistanis for me in the driving seat, praying the tail wags and we can get up to their total.

Finn LBW. 6th wicket for Yasir Shah

267-9, 72 behind... Pakistan will have chance to take this away from England this afternoon. It will need some special bowling to keep England in this.

Jake Ball on debut...

WTF Ball run out going for a 2nd :nono:

England 272 all out (79.1 overs)

Pakistan lead by 67 on first innings with the power to add to that on a perfect batting day at Lords.

Looked to me like the bowler dislodged the bails with his arm, not the hands holding the ball.
