I posted in the thread during the 1st test that none of the batsman, apart from Root, who have played in the last 2 years has a batting average of over 40. The top three average low 30s. An average of 40 plus for the top 5 or 6 batters is the benchmark.

Agree.
General lack of quality in cricket. Too many obsessed with slogging the ball miles and to hell with technique. Well here is the result.

Without question the weakest and worst England batting line up I have ever seen ( been watching since 1963 )
New Zealand are a decent side but not world beaters. Just not a lot of class around in cricket, generally, at the moment. On a good pitch, they are barely getting to day 4. A lot of these guys are flattered playing County cricket. They are simply good club players.

Even when at their worst against the great and almost invincible West Indies we always had a few players with the grit and determination to dig in and stay at the crease when all hell broke loose around them. That's all long gone now, we are being skittled by a clever rather than terrifying bowling attack... I'm sure the England team are aware that England v Croatia kicks off at 2 pm tomorrow too.

An absolute shambles, this is what happens when you play with zero intensity and make it clear you don’t really care about a series, they are so focused on the ashes down under.

Meanwhile Moeen, Curran etc playing for their counties in the T20.

This is absolutely pathetic. The ECB should hang their heads in shame and Silverwood needs to grow a pair and get his best players in the team.

People have paid money to watch us bottle a run chase in the first test and just be absolutely shit in this one.

Every chance Mark Wood will be our highest scorer.

Think about that and think about kicking the **** out of anyone you may meet in the ECB?

And I'm not joking, what have these ******** done to my game?

Not to worry, cricket’s saviour, the 100, starts next month.

Joke. Read a piece in The Guardian this morning giving the ECB a right kicking for treating this series like an afterthought, fiddling around with a bunch of changes and pointless swops, because all they care about is the upcoming Ashes.

Meanwhile NZ come in and shown what it means to play test cricket: focus, dedication, and a serious approach to every aspect and moment.

Wonder which of those nations is at the top of the game, mmm….

Firstly, credit New Zealand for their excellent all-round performance. To perform like they have in this test without Kane Williamson is testament to their quality.

However, England are all over the place. Without Robinson they rely on Broad and Anderson, and that is asking too much. As for the batsmen, these collapses are a regular feature and worringly predictable. Get Root and the rest will follow. As for the keeper, I don't remember a worse start to a test career.

I think that applies to a few series with England.

I think it's 4,000 allowed in. I should imagine a lot of ex-pats have got tickets for it.

Having literally just looked it up, I gather there was a ballot. Presumably all the New Zealanders I saw today who'd come up from London (ie seemingly all of them) will make the trip down. They all seemed to be having a good time, even if some of the England fans decided they had better things to do towards the latter part of the day.

Billings as a sub and Bairstow Rachid and Ali playing 20/20 other day shows what a joke ECB are. Take the paying spectators as fools

If they take this batting line-up to Australia, the Ashes series is going to be X-rated stuff. Cummins, Hazelwood and co must be licking their lips

An absolute disgrace, who will take accountability for yet another shambles?? Ashley Giles and Chris Silverwood should hang their heads in shame. In fact Ashley Giles should be disgusted with himself, he led one of the very worst England sides ( and there have been some stinkers) to abject failure in the WC before last before Trevor Vayliss in 4 years turned us into the best side on the planet, is there another sport where failure as a coach leads you to get a job higher up the pyramid? If he had an ounce of credibility he'd be resigning tomorrow. King of Spain? King of spin was far more appropriate.
