I'm not denying there are some terrible and dull league games, but surely the big wigs can see why people are going off international football? 90% of the games are utterly pointless, dull and one sided.
While I agree with the latter point, people army going of it are they, watching internationals is like shelling your hard earned on following your club. It's frustrating, you know that ultimately they won't won anything but you still do it. . what was it? 83,000 v Lithuania?

I must have been watching a different game to a lot of you fellas then as I thought we were half decent last night. Rooney and Sterling in particular were excellent.

Yep. Delph's especially in the first half was truly woeful, how an international can give the ball away that often. And while in not fan of tippy tappy football, it is okay to retain possession every once in a while rather than go long or pinging it in to an isolated Rooney. Love watching England, but that was woeful.

Agreed. Delph was our worst player by far. How he stayed on while Henderson went off is beyond me. If there was an opportunity to give Barkley a full 90 minutes in midfield, this was it.

To be fair, Jones played well when called upon & Wellbeck does what he does - crops up in the right place & worked hard. I just think we need more if we're going to be a force internationally.

Mason isn't much better, there seems to be a rule against backwards and sidewards football in England rather than just giving it away looking for a forward pass that isn't there.

Not Luton! Thank God
Just back from this- bang average stuff.
But here's a question that I'm sure one of you will have the answer to- why do the fifth/sixth officials stand behind the goal line on the same side of the pitch as the linesman running that end of the pitch?

Probably because refs generally run on the diagonal away from their Lino. That means that in the box they will generally be on the other side than the goal line official.

Mind you I've never actually seen one of those officials give a decision.

What is the point of nations like Lithuania not having to go through some sort of pre-qualification process or seeding?

An average England side won 4-0, hit the woodwork twice and didn't even get out of 2nd gear. If England had played at a higher tempo and had a bit more quality that could easily have been 7 or 8 nil.

You've just described the exact role that Jake Forster-Caskey is excellent at, and performed to a tee last night for the U21s - religiously held his position in the centre circle - always available to recieve the ball - keep possession - recycle possession - build. Moronic Brighton fans hate him for it.

And the dislike for him backs my point up.

We are so behind the times in England. Shock

Have to agree that I've never seen one give a decision but I suspect they are miked up so we don't know what they are saying to the ref!

Was just about to start a new thread on this. The same players that can't get past the quarter finals for their clubs in the champions league. Yeah, right - bloody delusional. So, we're flat track bullies. Yippee.

Who does Rooney think he is trying to fool/impress though? He spouts utter nonsense at times.

Yes let's create a Premier international system ,top 16 automatically qualify for tournaments and the rest do battle for places .England being 17th at the moment in the world.

I think that's very harsh. Many appreciate the role JFC plays and what he's there to do they just think others are better in that position and JFC isn't the sort of player that can cut it in a top championship team. He's not a poor player but he's not a great one either imo. I think the JFC knockers are different to the Barnes ones completely...

Yeah, what we haven't figured out is that yes, you have to probe and look for openings, but you have to also he comfortable passing it sideways and backwards. We've actually got plenty who CAN do the latter, but can't do the former making them pretty one dimensional footballers who'll never make the England team anyway.
