Long may these bad decisions go only against them. Serves them right.

Crucial 4th day morning session starts with India on 169-4... and Broad's first over goes for 12

181-4 (lead 157) all four results are possible... and hard to pick which is most likely!

I was pretty supportive of the ECB over the winter, but they've boxed themselves into a corner here and will have to make some (more) serious changes. Anderson, Broad and Plunkett have played all four Tests, presumably with the aim of winning a couple and getting some momentum, but now they are looking tired and there's still no win in sight. They backed Cook but his position is looking more or less untenable, and they've got no obvious candidates (as opener or captain) to replace him.

Lyth could open (though we may as well just then pick the rest of the Yorkshire team and have done with it.

Captain wise we're pretty desperate. They could try and persuade Joyce to go back to being English and then that's two problems solved

Before central contracts, Cook would have long since been rested. How can you keep playing a captain that has no confidence? He is a gimme wicket at the top of the order and his captaincy ' by numbers ' is laughably poor. Throw in ' old iron gloves ' behind the stumps ( who is a batsman/wicketkeeper...not the other way round ) who also can't get a run as all the sides have worked him out. Throw in the fact that we have no decent spinner and our front-line seamers struggle to put a decent hour together, let alone a session. Throw in Ian Bell, argubably our best bat who can't buy a run and you can see what a mess we are in.
Boycs ( who was dropped for slow scoring after making 246 not out...Cook won't make that in this series! ) was right yesterday when he said that the senior pro's are letting the side down. It is the youngsters who are having to take all the responsibility at the moment. Big decisions have to be taken and taken quickly, straight after this inevitable defeat. Cook, Bell and Prior have to be rested and another seamer brought in to help rest Broad. Far too inconsistent and thinks he is Viv Richards with the bat. Somehow, they have to blood another spinner.
I know this sounds drastic and a lot of you will say...' who do you replace them with? '...well thats the job of Moores and the selectors. Before we know it, this series will be lost 3-0 and people will be saying in retrospect we should have made changes.
If you can't rely on experience then you may as well blood youth.
