I agree but for us to be playing a team ranked 114th in the world that was poor and very unconvincing. Aleit the weather was bad but that was not really a excuse

Shocking game of football.

My views..

1) 4-3-3 does not work, especially when Wayne Rooney wants to run the whole game from our half. He should be in the hole behind the front two not in the hole in front of our centre backs therefore completely displacing Lampard. We have to revert to 4-4-2 asap and get Rooney playing nearer the goal in front of Lampard.

2) Jermaine Defoe is not an International class player, his vision is awful and he is not strong enough.

3) Azerbijan are a team full of niggly, dirty little players and should have had a few more players booked for the most persisitant fouling I have ever seen in a football match.

4) Gary Neville doesn't like Shaun Wright-Phillips.

5) We need Heskey back in the squad, tonight would have been perfect for him, the lack of physical presence up front tonight is the sole reason we only won by a single goal.

Anyway, job done. 3 points in VERY difficult conditions not help by shoddy officials. That free kick after the pass back for example. The ball was on the edge of the corner of the 6 yard box probably about 8 yards from the line yet their wall was allowed to be at leats 3 yards off the line, how does that work especially when you make other walls stand what lloked to me like 12 yards away.

Not a great game but a pretty competent performance from England in what were very difficult conditions. To me we look a good team and we are winning. I don't know what some people want at times. Be happy we are top of our group.

Is it just me or is anyone else finding this game boring and, well to be honest - shite :nono:

Have you not noticed that this is the case with almost all England games bar the finals at major tournaments?

I didnt even bother to watch, you know exactly what its going to be like anyway.

You have a point Albion Dan. It does seem that being an England fan is getting more and more boring with each game.

Yes, we pull off the results we need on most occasions but the manner of our play and overall style is rarely impressive.

I actually went into this game expecting a 1-0 and why should I have? We are surely a far better team than Azerbaijan so why can't we prove it?

The last time I was genuinely impressed by England was the Ukraine friendly, which didn't count. And even then it wasn't awe inspiring, just a good effort.

Why can't they just pick it up and sort it out?

There are times when the result is more important than the style of play.If anyone had said we would have 10 points after 4 games I would have taken that.Qualification is everything-we can turn on the style in Germany in 2006:clap2:

how anyone can say defoe should be instead of own is ridiculous - defoe has done nothing in the last 2 games and owen has looked class and got goal(s)

In defence of England, the conditions were pretty dire. Pitch looked uneven, and wind was very strong. Not the right conditions to play exciting, flowing football.

Saying that, Defoe did look very poor tonight (again) and Rooney was below par tonight.

Wright-Phillips looked threatening when he came on, and Owen looked sharper.
