For far too long the " senior " players like Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard have done all the sad post match press conferences, it's time the likes of Shaw, Barkley and Smalling the chance to look despondent in front of the cameras.

It would be good to see Hodgson make a few more changes and give the youngsters another 90 minutes - but it does concern me that Costa Rica might just fancy their chances even more if we put out Smalling, Jones, Lampard and Milner, who would all get outsprinted by a brick. Their selections would smack more of giving the rest of the squad a game. Ok its probably Lampard's last game but IMHO sentimentality should not enter into it). It would really worry me to see England's future built around Smalling and Jones.

Looking beyond the World Cup to the next friendlies and the Euros, we need to see a side something like this get a few games together:

Foster or Forster
Shaw
Cahill
Stones
Flanagan
Oxlade-Chamberlain or Lallana
Wilshere
Barkley
Stirling
Sturridge
Walcott

What a shit team, really disappointing.

Sterling who has been our one bright spark isn't playing why?

Lampard isn't the future, Milner is limited and Smalling is shit full stop.

Strikes me the selection is to keep as many players happy as possible so there aren't leaks of discontent in the squad and players don't go out to the media slatting Hodgson for not picking them.

Wtf has Lambert done to offend the selectors?

My apathy towards this game means I can't be arsed to leave work early to watch it. I'm disappointed in myself!

Sorry didnt realize that was the team the buffoon Hodgson has picked, thought the OP was asking for suggestions of what it should be.

We need to be in the middle of a rebuilding process, the fact there is a World Cup in the middle of is irrelevant. Spain will undoubtedly fix whatever needs to be done for them to come back stronger.

Will England ? I'd like to think so, but I somewhat doubt it since all the time the press and fans with their heads in the sand think all is rosy and it's just down to the manager.

It will be interesting to see the reaction on here after tomorrow's game. Will it be philosophical acceptance that we are a combination of a) not good enough, b) in transition and c) need to look forward - or will it just be a binfest, fuelled by a crap performance and the tabloids unleashing their full fury on Hodgson and a load of overpaid champagne charlies?

Personally I suspect it will all be a bit 'meh'. I'd love to see England do well but at the moment my disappointment is being tempered by my optimism about imminent good news coming out of The Albion, hopefully new signings, new playing kit, new training ground etc. in the next few days / weeks.

Agree about Lampard, he has never delivered us a trophy so I see no point in a sentimental appearance this is the World Cup not a love in. I must say though if that's the future squad or close to it, we will have no chance in the Euros and the next World Cup.... The future is bleak to be honest and we had just better get used to it rather than bleat on about how, why, when, and 66....

We will drop out of the top 20 in the coming years.
