England - Sri Lanka 2nd Test

Just saw a bit of todays action on SSN. Did we not appeal for Dilshan to be given out for hitting the ball twice when he threw his bat back to stop the ball hitting the wicket after a failed attempted block?

This is the cricketing equivalent of "trout tickling". Looks like they're falling into the same trap again!

Teriffic stuff, Jimmy for Broad in the next test and I think we have our strongest bowling attack ready for the world number one team in late summer.

Tenuously linked to this post, but I agree with what Boycott has said throughout this series, that England need to be flexible enough to play 5 bowlers when the conditions dictate. I know this 6 bat - 1 keeper - 4 bowlers lineup has done well for them recently, and they are pretty determined to stick to it, but I'd like to see them adjust to the conditions and the opposition. We know that Sri Lanka have a strong batting line up and a pretty weak bowling attack; why not pick an extra bowler (whether a spinner, as I would have done in Cardiff, like Panesar/Rashid, or an extra quick like Dernbach for this Test). Broad has shown that he's up to (on an occasional basis at least) batting at 7 and Prior is perfectly capable of batting at 6. The lack of a 5th bowler has been a real issue in this Test with Dilshan hitting some form.

If we had done that in this test, then I think we might have been in real trouble. Morgan got us out of a deep hole. Broad needs to be a lot more consistent to be a Test No.7 Ditto Swann at 8.

I think if had some variety four bowlers would be enough. Tremlett and Broad are fairly similiar but with a swing or seam bowler they'd be fine. Finn's basically a poor version of Tremlett. it's pretty odd for us not play one bowler who can swing in a home test

I buy the 5 bowlers argument for certain matches. The next time I'd pick Anderson and drop Pietersen.

I certainly wouldn't drop Broad at the moment.
