As sure as night follows day and palace follows chrystal you can guarantee that NSC will kick off about Southgate. Usually it's a load of petty bollocks.

That said he does make it difficult for himself when every squad he makes several really strange selections. Guehi and Philips have no place in the squad yet there they are.

I wonder what the Ben White issue is. He left the world cup for 'personal reasons' but you'd assume he'd be in this squad, he's been having an excellent season.
‘Petty bollocks’

Wasting a generational talent midfield and forward line by continually bottling big games and picking donkeys at the back.

And continually the same muppets tell us this clown has done a good job when he can’t identity talent at perceived lower clubs and every time we play someone on our level, Southgate is found wanting.

Kalvin Phillips still in the squad, unbelievable, it’s so patently obvious he has favourites, Dunk could score 57 goals this season and keep 38 clean sheets in a row and he still wouldn’t get picked.

Maguire has been exceptional in an England shirt even when club form down. Has experience in tournaments and always shows up for England. Hard to drop when the other CB options are not exactly miles ahead.
What you mean like when he lost Giroud against France cos he just hasn’t had any game time and because he has always been a bit of a cart horse.
That Harry Macguire

With March, you just drop a Gimmie right? Drop someone who you know a lot about.
No harm giving form players a try.
Re Maguire being so good for England, it's all relative. International football is neither as good or high intensity as the PL. Most CBs would at least look decent playing for England. Even Mings has had his moments.

As someone who couldn't contain my indifference about England and international football, I say great news because March can concentrate on the Albion

However, I feel a bit for sorry for him (as I have done for Dunk) as he is in the form of his life and it would have been recognised for that on a bigger stage.

Harsh on both dunk and March based on FORM

March I can sort of understand as he’s in good attacking company and hard to break into the squad, more about leaving out a star than him not getting in. Seems numbers by position won’t be deviated from by Southgate as obviously a case to not pick Henderson or Philips based on form

Dunk, however I am astonished. If it’s an age thing Southgate needs to come out and say it, I dont think it is however….

Southgate on Toney ...

“He’s available for his club,” Southgate said. “There hasn’t been a trial as yet or any judgment so I don’t know on what basis we wouldn’t pick him really … He’s playing really well. I like his presence in games. I saw his game at Arsenal where I thought he was outstanding and he deserves his opportunity.”

There hasn't been a trial? He's admitted guilt!

I think from his comments about us in the press conference it's clear that either

a) Southgate just doesn't want to play football the way Brighton play football
b) Southgate just doesn't understand how to set up like de Zerbi does

The result is that March is as good as many players in the England squad, but won't force is way in because Southgate is blind to how Solly plays.

As for Dunk (and Colwill), as others have said, they are as good as any other defenders (and certainly better than Maguire), but Southgate will not take risks in changing the dynamic he's trying to create.

Southgate isn't a risk taker.

who are you dropping from these for March out of interest ?

Forwards: Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford).
Easy peasy Ivan Toney

I think there are 2 separate debates.

1 - Should March get in. I'd ask, who should be dropped for him? Realistically it has to be one of the attacking options. He's picked the 6 of the top 9 english goal scoring attackers in the country. Solly is 10th. Solly's form has been BRILLIANT but I just don't see who you drop from the picked attackers. Others will come up with a name but I personally can't see it, however much I'd LOVE him to be picked.

2 - The squad overall. Yes, there are some utterly mad decisions in there. I've always been pro-Southgate for the CLEAR improvement he has brought to a squad that was LOST before he came in (Iceland defeat).

I want Solly in but I think he's made the right decision on that front, however hard that is to say.

I think he's made a shocker in loads of other areas. Now was the chance to let some go. I understood taking some to the WC for squad unity, but I look at some of the midfielders ahead of Ward-Prowse, Gibbs-White,

Maguire getting in constantly with Dunk having a stormer hurts.

Scarily, in writing this post I had a little look at stats for English players in the prem. We are SCARILY short of central midfielders of quality. I would love to have a huge list of CMs who should be in for Henderson and Phillips but I can only really name about 2 before I find myself at the Sean Longstaff's of this world. Quite worrying. Smith Rowe has been injured, Jacob Ramsey out of of form, maybe Harvey Elliot, Joe Willock, Oliver Skipp? All young.

He's admitted guilt to the majority of the charges, but because he disputes a few, there has to be a hearing. You just know he's going to get a 2 month ban starting in June!
