So who out of the world class players would you have picked?

We don't have any wingers.

I personally would have taken Townsend, but to say his the answer is just wrong

Personally 3 wingers would have been a must, although injuries to Theo and the Ox make those slim pickings. Townsend, Sterling & Lallana should provide enough options. But Hodgson is trying to play 11 players in unfamiliar positions because he feels they are the best 11 players whereas we know gelling a team together is much more effective than playing people out of position

So what if they are injured they can still be picked (see Wiltshire).

He's playing a kind of Marilyn Monroe formation - wide at the top, narrow in the middle and wide at the bottom. Suicidal.

Sterling and Lallana are not really wingers, The only other wingers I can think of is Lennon, Albrighton,Dyer

Sterling is the most winger like player we have in the England squad. He has pace to burn and can beat a defender, his best games have been out wide for both Liverpool & Man City

Backs up my point about not having many English wingers...

There ARE English wingers - Lennon, Townsend, Antonio - none of them are very SUBTLE though - run fast - kick it hard with your one good foot, kind of wingers.

Sterling is the only one with good feet, who can actually beat a man - like he did last night.

Albrighton is to the wide midfield role, what his team-mate Drinkwater is to the centre - decent, reliable players, with no pace or stand-out skillset.
