I'd be surprised if Rooney were dropped, being skipper he should be there every game and he's been fantastic so far.

RE the rest, I wouldn't be too surprised if we rotate the strikers, and after the last couple of performances giving Alli and Sterling a rest also makes sense.

Not sure on rotating the full-backs, although I'm confident both Clyne and Bertrand are more than capable. Not sure they offer the same threat going forward as Walker and Rose do mind!

Six changes is a lot, but there is definitely a case to be made for Sturridge & Vardy for Sterling & Kane anyway. My biggest concern is playing Wilshere & Henderson in midfield together given they've both been out for so long. Personally I wouldn't change the full-backs, and I wouldn't put Henderson in for Rooney. I can see the merits of Wilshere for Alli for this one game - Alli should take his place back in the next game though.

Alternatively, put Wilshere in midfield, and push Alli into Lallana's position.

This is frustrating as a few of my bets rely on England winning tonight.

We last played over 4 days ago. These super fit athletes recovery is so quick that 4 days is more than enough. They shouldn't need to be rested

1) should try and keep the winning run going and play the strongest team.
2) send out a message to other teams by looking good
3) More minutes for the team to play together and gel even more so
4) Top the group for the nice sat afternoon easier fixture.

I am (just about) old enough to remember Alf Ramsey taking off Bobby Charlton when we were 2 nil up to West Germany in the 70WCQF, to rest him for the semi. A decision that sparked the end for our WC defence and the start of the end for Ramsey.

If true, not exactly sure what Harry Kane's done wrong to fall out of favour with the manager so swiftly. Kane seems to me to be the future of the England attack for the foreseeable future. Offers far more scope as a striker than either Vardy or Sturridge. IMHO, like.

It's a gamble making so many changes but if it works out it'll be a really good move as it'll keep players fresh, everyone on their toes and will mean a minimum of 19 of the squad will have played in the tournament.

Individually there is a solid case for each of the changes, the gamble lies in whether so many changes will affect the fluency and cohesion of the team.

It's a ballsy move, I like it(unless we lose and other results contrive to get us knocked out in the group stage).

I guess that Kane COULD be being rested for the next round. But seeing as how he's been used for taking corners in this round, I'm a bit sceptical that the manager's not just making a bad call.

I don't think it's a bad thing to make the changes. I think Woy is taking a calculated risk that the team will still perform well enough to top the group and he gets a chance to give some players a little rest, perhaps reduce the injury risk, as well as see how others perform in what will be the least risky game of the tournament now. I suspect that he will keep the others on the bench in case of any slip ups. He picked a squad so why not use as many in the squad?

Huh? You wrote, "Wilshere is better than Rooney in that position". Given Rooney has probably been our best player (with Walker), how can you say Wilshere is better?

But now you seem to be saying it doesn't matter. All very confusing!
