Stevie G hasn't had his greatest of seasons, that was down to the Groin Injury and the operations he kept having. But he has got back fitter and stronger from it, and always wears his heart on his sleeve from start to finish. I think he can lead us to glory this Summer.

Bit too optimistic there. He didn't play well for Liverpool since he came back from injury. Their best game (beating Chelsea 4-1) was done without him

Dalgleish said he didn't want to play him, for the risk of "Burn out". I've lost count the amount of times. Gerrard has come up with cruicial Goals etc in his Liverpool and England Career, he deserves to be Captain of England. As well we need a experienced player to mature the younger ones in the squad, like Oxaide-Chamberlain. Very good move by Hodgson. IMO.

I'm struggling to think of a single crucial goal he's scored for England

Kind of agree, but tough for a gk to have an influence on the whole team during a game. How many GK captains are there in EPL or FL.

But does it makes a difference to the likes of John Terry or Steven Gerrard whether they have the armband or not? They will act like leaders regardless.

Scored the first against Germany in the 1-5 win I think, and the goal against USA in the last World Cup (again I think it was him), but can't think of anymore to deem him worthy of an automatic starting place through being named Captain

When a keeper is a captain, you'll usually have someone in midfield who will still command and get the team going during the match, much like Madrid with Casillas and Alonso. Parker/Barry depending on who is playing would most likely be that person.

Who was that American manager of Chester when they beat us at Withdean? He had 3 captains in his team, one for each part of the pitch. Terry something I think.

Yes, wears the Lion's with pride like a true Englishman should.

Gerrad wont quit if he has to be a squad player. In the same ilk as Beckham, Gazza, Pearce, Lineker etc. PRIDE

Absolute complete and utter horseshit. The amount of times he's declared himself unfit for England duty and then rolled out for Liverpool 3 days later must be over double figures.

To bring people back to my original question i see once again he failed to shine in an England shirt. If he makes it to 100 caps it's a bloody disgrace i tell you.

personally, (as much as i detest him), i think the england team should've been built around 'stevie me' from about 10 years ago, as others could've worked around him, (rooney), others could've fitted in, (beckham), and others could've f***ed off, (lampard).
think he is the best chance we have going into the euros, then a change and new look afterwards maybe?
