Agreed. Hate the embarrassing, "fashionable" attitude of being able to take or leave England.

I can take or leave England. I LOVE a good international tournament, and will certainly celebrate wildly if I ever see England win something, but just never feel that arsed when they do get knocked out. It's not a reaction against perceived jingoism - I reckon that by and large the country is smarter than that- and I'm honestly not trying to be fashionable. It's simply that I emotionally don't get as involved as with Albion.

:fishing: Bell end!

Had a free £20 bet was thinking Spain to win it would keep things interesting for me while Eng were out but couldn't even bring myself to do that as in theory it's betting against your own... Betting against your own country is pure cuntishness if anyone does it ;)

sheebo, i admire your passion for england....but surely you can accept that some people just aren't that fussed? (without calling them a bellend and calling their actions "cuntishness")

I shall be backing Spain again, they don't owe me anything after the last World Cup.

That's not true! I remember us having a row cos before one of our qualifiers / friendly games you said something like 'not even gonna bother watching' and then as we didn't perform well you were one of the first out the traps on here with your 'England were / are shit' comments! So you've watched more than 10 mins!

Why not give the new regime and English manager a go? Some good youngsters coming through and the Sun haven't picked on many of them yet to write bullshit storys to get morons believing it and therefore hating said player... ;)

PS - If we WIN the Euros or do well (semis or above), same with World Cup - I will hjave every right to LORD it on here over the likes of you and Simster :)

If we win you can lord it all you like I can take it and I'll be gulping humble pie, but in return WHEN we fall flat on our faces or perform like we did in SA please hold back on the "unlucky" "get behind the lads" comments

I think you may have me confused with someone else, as I have definitely not watched an England game since SA as far as I can recall. If you can be arsed to find said comments after a game I supposedly watched please feel free to post it.

See, I find that strange. Because - unless you have foreign roots - you ARE more English than you are Brightonish. People around the world would much more define you by that. It's your country, how can you "take or leave" your own country, to me that's like someone saying they could "take or leave" their own kids. I dunno, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

It doesn't matter to me whether I WANT to be an England fan or not, I feel like I have no choice, no different to your height or natural hair colour. I am English.

haha - was def you - but cant be arsed to find it - maybe it was your '10 mins' you were commenting on! If we're unlucky to go out at a certain point (as you could argue we have been in virtually ALL our last 5 major tournos to a degree - im thinking Campbell's disallowed goal (S) / Lamps goal / Portugal players chanigng refs mind to get Rooney sent off etc etc ) then YES i will say UNLUCKY and I'm PROUD if I feel that way. And will continue to get behind the lads!

PS - For what it's worth I don't think we'll do that well - qualifying from that group woud be a good achievement given the manager / injuries / suspension situation. But of course ala Greece in 2004 - we ALWAYS have a chance...!

Just remember WHEN England win a major - the likes of you and I can enjoy it FAR MORE than those who decide to give up on their Country

Now where's Mendoza with that 3 lions live @ Wembley video he always posts to get me IN THE MOOD...?!?!?!

I totally agree with you that choice doesn't really come into it - probably something you're conditioned either to go for or not. Like I said, it's certainly not any sort of statement I'm trying to make. And I do love England (the country) and being English (which is cool).

I DO love Andy Carroll though, and reckon he's gonna be RINGSTINGING defences all summer - an opinion which I fully admit is a bit strange!

You were right first time pal, he is a bellend.

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

Saying that, England at 7/4 not to get out of the group is the bet of the tournament :clap2:

I'm 39. I've never seen England go further than the semi-finals of a major tournament. Apart from those two tournaments and Mexico '86 I would say that the rest of the tournaments have constituted "a bit of a letdown". I had a bit of an epiphany during the last world cup and realised that England simply are not as good as most of us like to think that they are and that this is probably driven by a hyperbolic media whipping us all into a frenzy before a major tournament.

Oddly, now that I have had that epiphany and go into this tournament expecting a first round exit (defeats against France and Ukraine and the obligatory Swedish draw) it seems that the media is also doing exactly the same. I cannot remember expectations for a major tournament ever being this low. This probably helps the squad out no end so I could yet be pleasantly surprised. I certainly hope so.

nah....

downing for lennon would mean 3 right wingers and 1 left winger....no team would do that.......we needed a left footed left winger...downing is the best of a bad bunch (probably won't play anyway)

carroll for sturridge would mean no 'big' striker, so no plan b....with englands lack of striking options this wasn't really a serious option (imo it was either sturridge or welbeck)

terry for ferdinand was much of a muchness....they're about the same but we could only really take one....leaving ferdinand out wasn't the end of the world really....as for the racist thing, as roy said, he's currently an innocent man...can't not pick him off the back of that

people moan about his squad selection, but no-one has done enough to convince me about any of the alternatives

I would sooner play Garry Neville on the left wing than Downing, worlds do not describe how bad he is. Sturridge has been good all year though and Liverpool hardly had success playing long ball into Carroll this season. I think they had the most crosses in the Prem
