French police finally getting some blame.
French Police Tactics Escalate Lille Violence
http://news.sky.com/story/1712609/french-police-tactics-escalate-lille-violence

At last! I'm beginning to feel like the Liverpool fans did for all those years after Hillsborough with the gullible masses not there believing the press/Authorities.

Nothing has changed in the 18 years since I was in Lens.French Police are a disgrace. Treat people like animals and they will eventually act like animals.

I'd agree with this. But it's another country and sometimes they do things differently when you drink 50 pints and act a **** like the naked lamp post climber did. I have sympathy for innocents normal supporters but not goons like this. It's embarassing.

And given everything which has gone on only an idiot would strip and climb up a post in full view of the police. What was he expecting?

If you are that pissed I doubt he was thinking at all

Back to the norm, no Russians in sight.

Just pissed up idiots paying Euro8 a pint and creating a national disgrace

Regardless of whose fault it is, you have to ask whether it's worth taking part in these events any more. Things won't change until 1) a subsection of English followers realise that just because nobody has died, it doesn't mean they've behaved well and 2) rubbish police forces exist with no idea how to handle large numbers of our pissed up clowns and seemingly prefer to escalate a problem rather than manage and contain it.

Honestly, I'm 44 now and for the first time in my life as an avid football fan I am genuinely beginning to wonder whether it just isn't worth sending the England team abroad to major tournaments.

We've got two crappy world cups coming up. I wouldnt be displeased to see a self inflicted ban on England until 2024.

I've just read this. So, a group of England fans are being "rowdy", loud and singing all their familiar songs, and then one takes all his clothes off and climbs a 10 foot road sign. Maybe a foreign police force had just had enough and maybe a foreign police force deal with things differently in their country?

But then I've never gone abroad, got pissed up, acted lairy and stripped off in a public area so I guess I wouldn't know.

I hazard a guess and suggest these idiots were nowhere to be seen at the qualifiers but are in town because it's a cheap and easy place to get to and have a ruck. I feel sorry for the regular and normal fans.

FFS, why can't you be a bit more accepting of other people?

If 200 young men want to stand together and sing songs, what is the problem with that? They weren't breaking or throwing anything. It doesn't warrant 1) Your middle class disgust that they weren't all out cheese tasting or at art galleries. 2) Being tear gassed or baton charged.

Offended? You have read way to much into my post. I don't give two shits what this young lad has done. Why should I? I'm just trying to explain that sometimes you need to use a little bit of common sense. Maybe you can get away with it in Magaluf but at the Euros AND with a full knowledge of how the French are handling this tournament what did he expect?

As I said, I don't give a toss and I have now finished my breakfast so I'll go to work and leave this here.

I do agree that it is clear they were dealt with far too heavy handedly, but in all honestly WHY does it so often end up like this? Is it really worth it? By the way, your soppy rant about class has got nothing to do with it especially as a lot of these people will be middle class themselves.

Ever thought it might be because you come across all holier than thou with your self righteous posts???

I don't really care what you think, to be honest - you've always been a complete tool on here.

But even if you were right, are you saying a) only middle class people can come across as "holier than thou" and b) how the fck do you know I'm even middle class?

I don't , you just come across like a "Tarquin". Don't like it when you questioned and get all aggressive.

Haha Sussed me out.

I bet as a kid you used to guess it was the janitor who did it in Scooby Doo every week, and be all chuffed with yourself.

just let the team go and watch it on the box.....cant see many fans going to russia , 2 or 3 thousand maybe executive class ......qatar hard to call but i would say around the same number..... there was none of this bullshit in south africa or brazil because the chavs couldn't afford to get there......this tournament was always gonna be a mess off the pitch.....and now apparently on it as far as england are concerned.

I'm 53, and I've pretty much the same conclusion. All my energies go into supporting the Albion. I'm honestly not fussed whether England win or lose today - thanks to a small (?) minority of clueless idiots/thugs, I feel I just cannot be proud of my own national team any more.
