Engineerium to close

Statement on British Engineerium web site "Sadly, after serving the community for some thirty two years, the Trustees of the British Engineerium have been unable to raise the funds necessary to continue, and have finally and most reluctantly closed the museum.

The collections are to be sold on site by Bonhams on 10th May with viewing days on the 8th and 9th May, entry by catalogue."

What a shame, the engineerium is one of the best heritage attractions in Sussex. I just hope someone will come forward to save it. I was planning to take my 7 year old there tommorrow!

that is a shame, i haven't been for years (which of course explains their problem) but loved it...

The West Pier Trust resumably thought that the Pier could be saved, and the Pier is far more important to Brightons history than the Engineerium.

Saying that, I would try and save both.

I think the time has come that visitors have just dried up and ploughing money in would be pointless, as I can't imagine anything can be altered or added to get the visitors back.

this is a crying shame, a look round the museum reminds you how bloody great Britain was once upon a time, at least in Engineering and manufacturiung terms

I consider myself fortunate to have learnt, trained and worked with some outstanding engineers in the past, a lot of the basic principals and logical practices and techniques are sadly dieing out because of technology and time/cost constraints.

I wonder what the place is worth as is . . .it'd make a fabulous workshop and house
