Liam Livingstone is a bit of a bottler with the bat, isn’t he?

Choked in the Hundred eliminator
Choked in the Blast QF last week
Failed tonight when England needed him to see it through
I presume, you don't rate him.:)

BBC commentary is unlistenable due to all that silly nonsense going on in the background at the venue. I want to hear the cricket, not some tannoy announcer who thinks he's Freddie Mercury

I’m just saying if he could work out that hitting more runs is more important than hitting the biggest six he’d be a much better option

I can't see what Jacob Bethell has done to justify a call up. How does he match up to say James Coles (other than playing for a Test-hosting county)?

To tie him to England, over his native West Indies?

But yes - agree completely. Just another 'brave / inspired' England selection, devaluing England caps, and disrespecting proven County pros.

On another more general point, I feel that England's policy of selecting entirely distinct teams for different formats, also weakens England in T20, and leads to many England fans with a real disconnect with this side.

Australia last night included four of their current Test squad, in Head, Marsh, Green, and Hazlewood.

But they didn't have a test match that finished two days ago

Imagine a team replacing Jos Buttler in the squad with Jamie Overton. I am a Devon boy and support Somerset and had some fun times cheering on the overtons batting together. Jamie was generally 10 or 11 for us. Suddenly he is now England number 7. wtf?

Doesn’t average 20 in any format does he? I am ignoring one test match. I am happy they didn’t but surely Banton, Abell or smeed from Somerset would be a better bet and I am sure other clubs would have players too. Odd.

As for Bethall. I don’t watch the hundred but he must be bloody good at it because he is bang average in the blast isn’t he?

It seems England are just picking people for giggles now.

Not to disagree with the overall point that the team was an unbalanced mess, but in answer to the specific question about Jamie Overton's batting average, in FC cricket he averages just over 21 with 1 hundred and 13 fifties.

His T20 batting stats are fairly handy for a bowler with an average of 19.7 and strike rate of 160.7. Obviously plenty of not outs in that T20 average, but that's to be expected for somebody batting down the order.

No wonder Simon 'Douly' Doull has given this series a miss, I had the misfortune of seeing a bit of it. Half empty Utilitas Bowl mostly shivering in sub 12 degree temperatures, poor quality from an unrecognisable England team.

But not really a pick if he's unable to bowl?

Agreed.

Let's move the series to August along with the Tests

He doesn’t bowl at the moment. Has not for weeks. He was picked as a specialist batsman!
