I'm trying to envisage a parallel to Northstandchat for Dynamo Kyiv.

Posters saying things like [in Ukrainian obvs] : look at those Englanders moaning about their hardships ...

Pension envy is not a nice trait.

Indeed.

Lets bring the "triple lock" on to the table [I'm not a beneficiary of this yet BTW].
Last year, because Wage Rise Inflation was exceptionally high the Government elected to overlook this criteria in the annual state pension uplift calculation.
If they do the same for Retail Price Inflation next time round I fully expect all the pensioners to walk out on strike to demand a fairer deal.

To be fair it is estimated that in the new year average power bills will be around £4500 with state pension £9400ish. I think people relying on state pensions have every right to moan about their hardships

Every other bugger can moan. Us old timers just need to die, that’ll help.

Baring in mind that when the energy companies release their accounts for next year they'll be making a loss, with no bonuses or share dividends paid - so sharing the pain as well.

There are people out there (not aiming this at you more my dog walking "friend" ) who retired early, are lucky enough to have final salary pensions, had free uni, free prescriptions and cheap house prices in lovely areas who now expect everyone else to pick up the tab beacuse they "worked hard" Forgive me if I don't get my violin out and expect them to pay more as well. Everyone will fill the pinch but particularly those at the lower end of the scale pensioners and the young alike.

If nothing is done, poor people will eat or heat, small business will be wiped out (local chippies are already shutting round my way) and there will be riots every weekend whilst we plunge into recession. 1995 to pre pandemic will be looked back on as halcyon years - as well as an inquest into why we didn't fix the roof when the sun shone - with the worst possible people in charge at the worst possible time coming decided by the worst possible people. Happy days.

I meet a lot of your criteria as do a lot of my generation but certainly I don't expect the government to fund my position nor do the people I know who are in a similar position.

Martin Lewis is playing a blinder on this one. He's genuinely livid at lack of immediate government action

Vote Tory, get Tory.

And that's not even taking into account food, fuel and rent/mortgage rises. There's a huge number of folk, and not only pensioners, going to worried into an early grave. It's pretty terrifying really

Calling out the fact they knew it was coming since March. Johnson has done nothing as he knew he’d by toast by the time the new cap came in.

You think he's smug, fair enough. But what more can he do other than provide a fully costed plan to keep energy bills down?

The Tories will never go after the fossil fuel industry, too many vested interests

There’s nothing like constructive criticism, and that is nothing like constructive criticism.

Fully costed …be interesting to see exactly how much would be raised by the tax he is suggesting against the support talked about and how that would affect investment in the North Sea etc and the range of energy companies involved…plus plans for next year and onwards

Is it workable in the real world though? I can live with as much smugness as he can muster if so
