I assume you pay your Medicare payments ? If you break your leg playing football will you be willing to pay for the treatment ?

We do pay for various treatments over here. If I go to my Dr I have him. I get a small rebate but overall I foot most of my medical expenses.

It's called National INSURANCE for a reason - it's medical insurance. Some people pay in and don't use it and others pay in and use more than they've paid in - there should be no restriction on emergency treatment for anyone who has paid in. Starting to select who can use the treatment based on what they've done to cause the need will take us back to the dark ages and set us on the road to using the American model of only getting treatment if you can afford it. What if you drink every now and then and get liver cancer ? How is proven that your drinking created the issue ? Even if that is provable, what if you can't afford to pay ? Should we just leave that person to die a slow painful death in the gutter ? Yes, lets go back to Victorian times !

We don't have that system here...

You have to be a heavy drink to get cirrhosis which can increase the potential of liver cancer. A few drinks now and then will not give you liver cancer.

I'm talking about the people who overtly abuse something. Not people who use everything in moderation or in minimal quantities.

You're descending into the Nanny state mentality surely?

I'm dead against governments introducing law after law to protect morons from themselves. laws should only be there to protect the innocent from the idiots.

There are plenty of people with similar background who don't turn to drugs. If you need drugs to deal with that shit then sorry, life's actually not worth living because when you're on drugs you're not living in a reality. You're simply masking it. Sure that's harsh but if life's not enjoyable carrying that kind of crap for 50 years isn't worth it or fair.

Strangely enough I actually support euthanasia for anyone who wants to do it safely. Give people that option and then we might not have as many of these heroin junkies you're referring to because we've given them a more dignified way to move on.

Oh educate yourself man. You're the problem.

Agreed BUT you can still get liver cancer even if you don't drink.

How do you measure "overtly abusing something" ? A completely ridiculous answer ! You've avoided the question about what we do with people who can't afford the treatment ? I'm expecting a "tough shit" type answer though.

Alcohol is a huge problem in society though.

It's not used responsibly at all among large portions of society.

My question is why do people think legalizing drugs means people with use it responsibly?

The answer to that question is that it will not, but at the moment drug users have not got the chance to use them responsibly because they are buying their drugs on the black market not knowing the purity or strength.
If they could go into a chemists and buy what they know is medically pure drugs at least the accidental deaths will be eliminated.
They could also choose the strength of drug in the same way that they can buy alcohol.
There is no difinitive answer to the problem of people who want to escape from reality exept reality itself.

its been a fun binfest... but seriously, are you capable of a coherent, consistant argument? you've just rattled on argueing for the status quo which is to have laws that protect morons from themselves. but you're against this...??? the current law on drugs does not protect anyone and only serves to create a more valuable and dangerous industry for production and supply of narcotics. the law isnt based on logic or reason, its a paternalistic, or nannying, attitude from the state that tells us drugs are bad, m'kay,

Oh educate yourself man. So far you have claimed to know what causes cancer, what causes psychosis and all the time displaying a leviathonic ignorance of the physical and social nature of addiction. And an intolerant half-wit to boot.

You should remove yourself from this discussion until you have gone away and done some research on the nature of addiction. Your ignorance is increasing with every post.

Actually I understand it fully. Which makes me wonder why so many people are keen to push drugs into a position in society where more addictions could possibly be created.

Many a person has whatever it is in the brain that causes for want of a better word an "addictive personality". Meaning they are far more susceptible to falling victim to an addiction be it gambling, drinking drugs etc.

I'd rather we spent money on scientific research to try and discover if there is some gene that produces this addiction complex in humans and formulate a way to be able to sever it so the person isn't bound by it.

However let's not digress. the biggest push for legalizing drugs isn't from or for the heroin junkies these days, its from the pot smokers and the pill poppers.

Brighton factually.....
getting out my big shitty paddle and giving this binfest another stir.....

I still dont know what they are proposing is it just soft drugs ?

and another little stir....

What are soft drugs and what are not....

I have my opinion but then it could be different, as I class maybe cannabis etc, ecstasy, and speed as soft recreational drugs... !

From the rhetoric you have used thus far you REALLY do not understand the first thing about addiction, sociologically, physiologically or psychologically. Very unhelpful.

Don't you ever read? Go and read the cancer councils synopsis of liver cancer. I'm not pushing my view on it, it's merely stating what the medical fraternity have stated. Their view disagrees with yours in regards to moderate drinking and liver cancer.

Call me a half wit if you wish, but if you're going to resort to childish name calling you only look like an immature sook.

When did I deny what the causes of Liver cancer are? Of course drinking can cause liver cancer. It's pointless getting into this with you.

May I just say that although I am for the legalisation of drugs I am not a user exept for the endorphine/ adrenalin rush I enjoy watching the Albion win.

Maybe all the money that is spent on the war against drugs would be better spent on the research you mention.

That's your view. My mate died because of drugs combined with mental issues. Don't piss in my pocket and don't tell me I don't understand anything about addiction or peoples mental health.

I learnt the hardest way possible about how it effects people.

It also hardened me the f*** up to the world and made me realise we've all got to make our own choices in life in the end. .

So I do understand. I guess after all this time I'm just still angry at him and perplexed as to why so many people think they are a good thing for society.

I'm not suggesting they are a good thing for society, what I am suggesting is that there is clearly a drugs problem and the current position on drugs doesn't work. While people like yourself are complaining that it causes death and misery, people are out there dying and causing misery. Your attitude seems to be "f*** them, it's their choice". Maybe, maybe not but in the meantime crime, prostitution and violence is being commited in the name of drugs and families are hurt and torn apart by them. It's not just the drug taking itself that causes problems. The debt, violence and criminal activity harms everyone.

One would think you'd be slightly more understanding around people like your mate getting medical treatment then.

I've asked this question and nobody has answered it. What drugs do you really think will or should be legalized?

Marijuana and Extacy seem to be the thing most people are moaning about, but will those people then say oh hang on, no don't do it though with ICE, Heroin, Crystal Meth etc

I mean realistically, how hard a drug do you want made available to people?

Unless you legalize the hard drugs you arent shutting down any criminal organisation they way I see it.

Any drug that is not man made, and is a natural product put on this earth by some god, for us to enjoy....
Legislating against nature? A bit silly really. Again, whilst sympathising with your friends death, if it wasnt cannabis, I would suggest he would have used something else. You cant use somebodies obvious mental illness to target a group of society, because he used a similer drug.

What I learnt it that after the first few times it starts to be taken advantage of and used not for the purpose it should be but for a bit of a break before getting back into the bad ways.

In the end it just created anger and frustration at seeing the dedicated staffs time being wasted like it was some kind of joke.
