He was tired and carrying a knock. He didnt think he would be able to do himself justice which actually is an honest assessment. I know he has been knocked to high heaven for it but he IS a quality player and deserves a chance

Booing Bentley was out of order and stupid.

Likely the same bunch who consider it acceptable to boo the Israeli anthem.

Robinson - 6 - he must have been slightly bored with the lack of ball he saw

Richards - 8 - didn't do much wrong and looked good going forward
Ferdinand - 7 - did what he needed to do well
Terry - 7 - same as Ferdinand
A.Cole - 7 gave the ball away a wee bit but looked solid

Wright-Phillips - 9 all he needs is confidence
Gerrard - 6 - did'nt notice him playing
Barry - 7 - solid
J.Cole - 7 - played well

Heskey - 8 - better than expected
Owen - 8 - great goal, but should have scored another

subs:
Johnson - 6 - not much time, still hate him though
Bently - 6 - was proberly too tired too put any effort in
P.Neville - 6 - makes me nervous when he plays

McClaren - he picks a team who perform ok, win 3-0 and get a vital win, but is still slagged off!

As for England, I was really impressed. We were a class above Israel, without ever really needing to go past third gear.

Don't you thikn part of the problem has been the inability to get out of 3rd gear even when it is required?

Lets see what happens on Wednesday against a half decent opposition

Reckon it will be the same team against Russia on Weds with the exception of Hargreaves for Barry. Against decent (and less defensive oppo) we need him to cover for Richards, Cole and Gerrard making those attacking runs.

On the booing Bentley debate, I was pleased to see him booed and hope that it will give him a kick up the backside and make him realise that playing for England at any level is a privilege.

Indeed but they are the same people who decide if a manager is good or bad and then refuse to lose face by admitting they may have got it wrong. McClaren is doing OK with what he has to work with and as long as he resists all calls to bring back Beckham he'll keep my support

Wembley looked stunning on widescreen HD (not my tv, went round to watch the game at a mates' house), very good performance against an average side...still can't work out how Israel qualifies for being part of Europe...mind you when considering their neighbours it is probably better that they compete against us instead.

One obeservation was the number of people leaving early, there appeared to be a mass exodus about 10 minutes from the end, also the number of empty seats at the start of the second half...also I don't believe the quoted attendance at all, as fabricated as some of ours at the Goldstone.

Two definite positives, SWP seems to have come of age this season, an excellent performance in a white shirt...hopefully he will get an extended run in a blue one. Micah Richards, he must have been a close second in the MoM stakes to SWP, an imperious performance capped by a very well taken goal...more of the same on Wednesday please...and for the next decade or so.

I didn't boo Bently as i can see hes point.

Blackburn have played in the intertoto cup and what with a full season then the chance of playing in the euro's next year the guy wouldn't have a break if playing in the u21's.

Surley its better for England in the long term that he didn't play last summer?

Yeah, but then why wait until the deadline passes for changing the squad to announce his decision, thereby leaving England a player short and denying someone else the opportunity to experience tournament football? Don't particularly agree with booing players though (although as an impressionable youngster I must admit to joining the chorus of boos aimed at John Barnes against San Marino way back when), and hope the next time he plays the reaction will be better.

FFS......it was only Isreal. If a bunch of players from the premiership couldnt beat that lot then what hope is there. A similar performance against Russia will be impressive. A victory over Isreal isnt.
