Venue is fine. Its a lot closer than Pissfield and has got as much atmosphere ats the Goldstone used to dureig the early nineties. (puts helmet on, puts head down and waits for flaming)

Spot on. The atmosphere at the Goldstone - like anywhere else - was crap when the team were.

So you would rather anyone got their hands on tickets ??

Databases ensure that tickets can be traced back to who bought them and deters the hoolies from getting into the ground end of.

Not really, Anyone can get their hands on tickets it seems, if your on the database you can buy tickets for people that aren't. Instead of needing a name and address for each person going. Rather than saying, you have to already be on the database, why not just say anyone can get a ticket but you have to register onto the database.

Before we all hit the panic button, there's today and tommorrow to sell a relatively small amount of tickets.

I had given up before hearing about the extra tickets yesterday, there's certainly none in the South Stand as mentioned in other posts.

I do agree though that the club will need to think long and hard about how they sell tickets for Falmer if they want to get big crowds for the bigger games.

The idea that everyone will queue outside the club shop for games for 3 hrs like the Swindon game of a couple of seasons ago is frankly not the way to attract fans back to the club...

The Withdean is fine eh?

Maybe it's just me then but the whole experience fills me with dread. Maybe it's not just the venue but every game I go to it seems that I'm surrounded by moaning old bastards and know it alls.

I think you are all missing the big picture.

Lunchtime on a Sunday is a STUPID time for a football match.

Blame Sky for the empty seats! No-one else.

Thing is that there are tickets on sale and no one wants them. Also you have to already be on the database, so that is excluding loads of people I know that haven't gone before but would love to go to this one. The club are excluding the ordinary joe in the street and I just hope they don't do that at Falmer. If they make it really difficult to get tickets then the attendances will be down on what they should be. Some people don't want to apply 2 weeks in advance for a game.

You can actually get them by ringing or popping into the shop. its not postal application. But you do need to be on the database. However there are close on 50-60 thou on the data base

According to the club website, the additional tickets are in the South East stand. Surely they mean the NORTH East stand? ???

It would be embarrassing if it's not full, so get in there if you don't already have a ticket.

Whilst the view may not be great from there (not sure as I've not sat there), it's surely a game everyone wants to be at - or was that pillock Mike Ward right and it doesn't mean anything?

Can't be arsed or prefer not to sit in that hole for that amount of money? Home games don't interest me anymore, for that you may think of me what you will and take all the moral high ground you like.
Quite, i've been the same since September 2004, not been to Withdean once since then apart from for the REMF game, REMF games are the only time i will venture into that shithole again.

Talking to a Charlton supporter today, they are noticing a significant decline in away attendances for unfashionable teams. He gave the example of the game vs Bolton, who apparently took less than 1,000 of their 3,500 allocation. The spare tickets then went on sale (quite late) for home fans, but not many were picked up because (a) the atmosphere adjacent to the away fans is not that pleasant, and (b) most people don't know the tickets are available. A few bits of this sound familiar. I honestly think that fewer fans are willing to travel to away games (including BHA fans this season - Stoke was a good example) - the cost is beginning to get ridiculous. Plus, when the game's on telly anyway, even the fairly committed fan has to think twice.

I hope one day they cap the players wages and bring a bit of pride back to the game.

I think a basic-wage cap, with performance related bonuses is the way forward. That way if a player plays well they get more than a striker who can't score, and then throws his toys out the pram when he gets subbed (naming no names of course)..... ;)

Edited for bad spelling
