Not really. The insurers will still be on the hook for liability claims. If you crash into someone in your car and it turns out you weren't qualified to drive, your insurers don't need to pay you anything but will still have to pay the people you hit.

The pilot's insurers will pay less, but still be paying out a fair whack.

If you weren't qualified to drive you wouldn't get insurance, likewise if you weren't qualified to fly at night your insurance policy would only cover if you flew in the day. I cant see how an insurance company could be liable due to the pilots negligence

There are third party liabilities that insurers can't dodge if they accepted cover, even if it then comes to light that policy terms were breached.
Doesn't apply to many insurances.. car, plane and ship principally. It's to protect everyone else who is an innocent party (normally who you hit but also passengers in your vehicle).
They will certainly be able to throw out much of the claim. But not all.


And few motor insurers will actually check your licence before hand but will at claim stage. So if you hit someone and weren't legal you couldn't claim for yourself/your vehicle but claims against you (other vehicles/drivers and/or your passengers) will be covered. There is normally a clause saying the insurer will pursue you for whatever they payout but almost never cost effective for them. There are factors like 'contributory negligence' (say, if your passenger knew you weren't legal) that reduce payouts but there will be costs they have to pay.

I wonder if the Knockaert family had similar. His brother died in his mid twenties, before he came to us, his Dad had his first heart attack the following year and then died within months after that. Trauma can affect families like that.

As said nothing new, and I'm sure it's even been mentioned here, but I do wonder if the Albion were ever interested.

I'd like to think they were and in an ideal world the Albion turned their backs with McKay's inclusion to the 'deal'.
