I love the fact that you seem to genuinely believe that it is actually a valid point and that in your humble opinion Bloom, Ashworth and Potter appear not to have a scooby.

I'm guessing you reckon Johnson isn't a mendacious charlatan too.

Could be wrong. Obvs. Its just a guess.

But where do I criticise Bloom or Ashworth or Potter? Show me one post where I have done this. You can’t. Thank you [emoji120]

Describing our recruitment strategy as “bizarre” is hardly a ringing endorsement of those responsible ... [emoji23]

Not this season no, that's why the rumour for most of the summer has been that Villa were looking to spend about £100m. Starting to look like it's true.

With the money we are saving on players wages leaving and fees received you would like to think the recruitment team have something to play with as we haven't spent a penny

My understanding is that strictly speaking FFP is still in force, but clubs can add together 20/21 and 21/22, and then divide the result by two to get an average profit/loss for each year. They can then exclude losses directly related to Covid when assessing the allowable loss (which is €5m/year, or €30m if the shareholders cover the difference). The result is that, if you have owners with deep pockets, they can cover the Covid-related losses, and up to €25m/annum of "normal" losses. Without knowing the extent of the Covid losses at an individual club it's difficult to assess whether they will be up against the FFP threshold....and of course we won't know until the end of 21/22. For those splashing the cash now, one would think that logically they will be spending a lot less NEXT summer. Inevitably the result of this change to the rules means that clubs with rich owners (who are willing to keep pumping the money) will have a significant advantage. Who knew?!

Its a no-brainer that this Martinez rumour was started by his agent to make Villa pay up what Arsenal want & to offer the wage his client wants.

A lot of people dont think Ryan is good enough, so they wanted this rumour to be true rather than trying to see it from the perspective of the club:

Bloom, Barber & Potter repeats over and over that the economic situation is difficult, there is already a good, proven first choice keeper and as we most of understand (except for those who believe the recruitment team is just rolling their thumbs) is looking for a striker... you dont need to be a rocket scientist to understand this £20m goalie signing was never going to happen.

The problem with your theory is that this isn’t the first keeper we’ve been linked with this window. I suppose that Uruguayan keeper’s agent also used us? Seems a coincidence. Or maybe the club are looking at other options...

I predict we will be linked with other keepers. What will you say then?

It is also not personal criticism

I will say that yes that is likely, and the club will also be linked to centre backs, left backs, right backs, all types of midfielders and possibly even strikers, and in most cases it will either be taken out of thin air or from agents with some agenda. Rumours in 2020 rarely come from directors of football etc. revealing shit while drunk in the pub, it is always agents. When I wrote for Fotbollskanalen we, during transfer windows, got 50 or so emails and calls from agents every day spreading all kinds of shit rumours in order to push clubs to get their clients new fancy contracts, to push clubs to buying their players or to make bidding clubs offer higher wages than they usually do.

Most rumours got zero reality to them.

Seeing as none of us know what goes on inside the club, let's look at the facts.

We have been linked with two goalkeepers.

Naylor/Owen have shut the rumors down emphatically.

We haven't signed a keeper and our first game is tomorrow.

I tend to agree, Ryan has been quality for us but his distribution could be better, a fine shot stopper but he does worry me at Opponents set pieces. Interesting that we are looking to spend this amount on a keeper. I wasnt aware Ryan was unhappy or looking for a move but then none of us saw Mooy looking to leave. Would be expensive back up but IF Martinez was too come in and replace Ryan at least he has prem experience unlike the Turkish fella.

Exactly that. I think Martinez has now signed for Villa however I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at bringing in a keeper!

I really don't think the Martinez link was anything other than the agent driving a better deal for his client. £20m never made any sense to me for a 'keeper with very few first team apps.

Villa have invested heavily again which I think is more of a risk than our strategy, it'll be interesting to see how they integrate them all

To be fair Heaton is injured so they had a need to cover for him.

Apart from the two new first team signings and improving at least four other contracts. Apart from that though, yeah, not spent a penny.

Two first team signings that cost less than £1m in fees. We have brought in nearly £20m in fees.

We have improved a couple of contracts but let Murray, Duffy, Greyhound, Montoya, Mooy, Kayal go.

You were being pedantic but the poster was right. Our level of investment this summer has not been acceptable and is not at a level to see us stay in the PL long term.

Good signing for Villa and Martinez will get some game time.
As previously pointed out I doubt we would have been interested unless we were ready to sell Ryan.
I'm sure the recruitment team have got other things on their mind right now

Perhaps the COVID outbreak and financial hit the club has taken means we need to be a little more careful with our pennies, that said I’m sure we’ll be doing a little more business before the end of the transfer window.

What strange little rumour this was. Never looked likely or realistic.

At least it gave all the Ryan Haters and Heightists something to moan about...

,,,which is nice.

Yet one swoop for an impressive striker before the window slams shut and the business would look almost perfect.
