Give the possibility of playing in the Premiership and double the wages of just about any footballer in England and they would all jump at the chance. There is no loyalty in football anymore. It's is a massive shame because Elliott seems to care about this club more than just about anyone I've seen play for us - I have never seen him give any less than 110% and you can see he is incredibly passionate about Brighton in everything he does on the pitch.

I still think we can get promoted without him but I don't think some people appreciate what a huge job he does for us. Bennett to us is what Fabregas is to Arsenal and Gerrard to Liverpool. Take them away and they struggle. He has that extra spark and creativity that is so hard to find at our level and if he does choose to go, he will be sorely missed.

Nowt on the various Twitter sources I follow who are usually pretty quick off the mark.

I think people need to calm down a bit. 1.5m would be one HELL of an outlay for a 3rd division midfielder for the likes of Norwich. He only penned a new long-term deal a couple of months ago, he seems happy and settled, and TB has gone public and made it known that Gus does not HAVE to sell anyone.

Up until now Elliott has not been agitating for a move, ergo he is not unhappy here. For that to change to the extent of him suddenly slapping in a transfer request, quite literally overnight, I would find astonishing. He'll move on at some point, maybe even in the summer, but I cannot see it happening this week. And look - we CAN turn down transfer requests, it happens all the time. Doesn't mean he'd go into a sulk and stop performing does it. I think he's better than that.

Rumours on that link the first post don't look promising at all. However these are only rumours and there hasn't been any recent indication that Norwich or any other club have returned with bids. Poyet also said in his Argus Q & A that he would not put a price on Bennett, so wherever these people are getting these numbers, from I have no idea.

However I do think that if the price is right and Bennett wants to go, then we have to let him go. As people have said no single player is bigger than the club and keeping an unsettled player in the squad we have could have disasterous outcomes. Our team morale has been brilliant this season and all the team have a great bond, I think keeping Bennett if he doesn't want to be here would be a massive mistake from Poyet. He is our most consistant and talented player, granted. But if he wants to leave, let him go and wish him luck for his future.

The last convo I had with him, he loves it here. I can't see it happening, Why go to another team who will be playing Championship football against us next season? When he could be a regular for us and a key figure in our rise to success.

I'd be suprised to see any of our player leave at their own request prior to the Amex opening

Only one statement can answer this,

Money talks.

I remember being devastated when we lost Peter Ward to Forest, Lawrenson to Liverpool, Horton to Luton (?), but at the time we were a (old) Div 2 side, two years later we got promoted.

A football team is not built around one player and if he wants to go let him go. If you want our team to progress we will be outing a lot more players in order to reach the top echelon of football. We won't be crying spilt milk over that. And those that think we are built around one player need a reality check. Save your tears because he is not the saviour. Our club is being built around the foundations of a progressive Chairman and an outstanding young manager... live with it.

Maybe im in the nile, but I can't see it. Not for 1 million, and I dont mean cos he's worth more than that, but we just dont, seem, to need to sell. Even more so if the rumers of a 25% sell on fee. Whats the point in only making 500k profit out of him, not including any signing on fees, only to get somone else in, aka Nooney at 300K?

Not, I smell bullshit from the sun. That 'report' has nothing in it apart from: 'BRIGHTON were tonight rocked by a transfer request from star player Elliott Bennett.' Also: 'desperate'. Is he? Really? Or is this just a made up story from a journo who knows nothing about us and whats happening with us and see Nowich as a huge club comared to us. Not including wages.

To conclude. Please don't go Elliot.

Everyone do please remember:

The Sun journo is a Norwich fan.

This is the same 'newspaper' that reports on it's 'website' that Liverpool have confirmed Chelsea have offered £40m for Torres. And yet, nothing on BBC or SSN.

Ergo, bullshit. When it's on the official site, it's official. Until then, it's bullshit.

Because the Sun journo is likely to create a story to give false hope of a signing to fans of his own club?
