We are a good team so we would be OK but I'm pretty sure it WILL make a difference to us.

Depends who is the replacement really. Shit timing really.

I would now expect a club record fee to actually allow him to leave.

Thing is, we might need 3 players to replace him. Somebody to play on the wing, somebody to play in the 'hole' and somebody who can cover full back!

Disappointing it comes so close to the deadline.......

"Gaffer. I've loved every minute of it here and you've improved me as a player, but I want my chance to play in the Prem and I think Norwich might do it. I'd like a transfer please".

"I understand - and I've always said that if a player (or manager) grows more quickly than the club we won't stand in your way. But in this case, we are growing quickly and you're a key player in this team. Norwich may not go up and may never have a season this good again if they don't. They're massively in debt and this is a risky gamble for them. Wait until the end of the season - get promoted with Brighton - and you'll be worth more, you'll have a better CV, and you'll have more (and better) choices including staying here. Sorry Elliott, you're a good honest player but I can't agree to your request. In return for yuo continuing to deliver for Brighton, we won't deny any transfer request you make at the end of the season. I hope you understand".

Elliott leaves the room. Gus picks up phone, dials and speaks "Get hold of Bennett's agent and keeeel heem". Puts down phone.

Suggest Gus reminds him he has just signed a four and a half year contract and tells him to concentrate on Watford game

Doesn't matter how you spin it, Bennett leaving would be BAD news. Players like him don't come along too often.

Absolutely correct. OK, not a disaster because nobody has died, but in the context of this season it's a f***ing nightmare that he wants out.

ok..i suppose a transfer request doesnt have to be accepted unless it suits us and i think if we rejected it i dont think we would have an unhappy player on our hands because he is happy here ........but why put the request in with 3 days to go of the transfer window, 3 days to try and replace him unless Gus has known this was going to happen for the last 2 weeks and has something up his sleeve!!!!! Come on Gus work your magic fella get this sorted!!!!!

oh very dear!!!

He has obviously had his head turned.

The bottom line tho is that he has just signed an extended contract, The team is top of the league & he has a chance to end up with a medal in his pocket at the end of the season which very few players actually end their careers with. He should just bite his tongue & get on with it and if he still feels the same way in may then so be it

That last bit sums things up nicely. No one man can be greater than the club, and if he is...get rid of him.

Contracts?!!? Loyalty!?!?!?! Go on Dirty Dave, your talking crazy!

Loyalty ? Hmmm, that works both ways. Ask Whingy for a start. Of course not that anybody would consider leaving his employer if offered more money and more status of course. Can't say I blame him.

Thanks Elliott - can you send me 66 quid out of the mahoosive pay rise you're going to get to pay for the replica kit with your name on it that I bought my boy two months ago after you signed your contract because you loved the club etc etc

You'll notice by the lack of punctuation that I'm a bit upset

I'm afraid to say a 9 point lead can't be clawed back within a week, maybe a month (at worst) but defeintly not a week. All ifs and buts? we're top of the league and unbeaten at home with the best manager outside the premiership! your making it out as if we're where we are purely because of Bennett which is nonsense! Stop being so negative about the situation which may happen because its not half as bad as your making it out tobe. Bennett is a quality player as I've stated but so is Calderon, Painter, Greer, Dicker, Murray, Kishishev, Wood and dare I say it El-abd. All these players have played their part this season so give them credit!. Stop being so one eyed and smell the roses. We're a quality team not dependant on one player.
You also mention teams like Southampton catching up on us if we lose Bennett, well what do you think thier thinking with all this specualtion of Chamberlain leaving?

I completely agree with this. Bennett leaving would undoubtedly be a blow, but not the end of our promotion hopes at all. We have excellent strength in depth at midfield and someone else will have to step into the Bennett role IF he does actually leave.

I don't think we should let him go personally, and should reject any transfer request that may or may not have been put in. If he wants to go he can f**k off in the summer, still plenty of work to do before then.

Still gutted...

With Jamie Smith out injured we will now look severely depleted when it comes to wingers.

I know Muzza handed in a transfer request, but it was different as far as we know. There wasn't another club trying to sign him, he just wanted to move closer to home. With Benno his head has clearly been turned and Gus has said that if clubs come in from higher division and the player wants to go he won't stand in their way, like with Crofty. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.
