Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen dies

Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen, who also starred in the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures, has died.

Sladen joined the BBC television series in 1973 as Doctor Who's assistant Sarah Jane Smith.

In more recent times the Liverpool-born actress went on to appear in four series of The Sarah Jane Adventures on children's channel CBBC.

And she was just influencing a whole new generation (the young Pottings at least) in the ways of the Whoniverse. I enjoyed the Sarah Jane adventures, they went to a lot of trouble with them for what is basically a kid's TV programme.

I'm genuinely shocked to hear this news. Lis always came across as being a very warm person in interviews, and was always very watchable in Doctor Who, her character being a great foil for the Doctor. School Reunion is probably my favourite episode from the new series.

She's probably off having an adventure with the Brig and Worzle Gummidge now...
