The Championship.
Apparently they're banned from the AMEX but am I can't be the only one who feels they should be allowed? They wouldn't do any harm to anybody else's health around you and personally, I'm trying to stop smoking so I feel it would help if they were allowed.

Should they be allowed in the stands?

Don't see a problem tbh, only tiny thing would be they could be hard to distinguish from real ciggies on the cctv so it 'could' lead to people trying to get away with it.

Maybe just let the ones in with the blue end light to make it clear to cctv its not real, the one I had from more than a meter away looked real.

How hard are they to differentiate from normal cigarettes when viewed from a distance? Could cause stewards a bit of hassle to try and work out who is having a sly cigarette compared to those using an e-fag.

I guess if someone looked down their row and saw someone 'smoking' they would just light up a real one ...and so on, and so on until The West Stand (Amex) resembles The West Stand (Goldstone). Maybe?

i emailed the club about this and this is the email i received in reply....although he hasn't replied since his meeting with the safety officer

Sorry, but I have just found this in my spam folder (apparently our filter picks out the word law – which is helpful). I’ll speak to the Safety Officer on Monday and we will reconsider this. At the moment in line with most entertainment venues, we do not permit them. The reason is that they have been found to cause disputes with staff, sometimes deliberately engineered, and to act as cover for illegal smoking.

My own view is that the ban should stay but I’ll discuss this with my team on Monday.

i did suggest a compromise, whereby the were not permitted in the stand, but ok to use on the concourse.
as yet no reply, although it was a good month before i got a reply in the first place

I think you would undoubtedly get constant misunderstandings/binfests both from slightly overzealous stewards and from jealous smokers lighting up when they see someone else has.

I'm trying to give up drinking. Do you think they would allow me to take in one of those double skinned glasses with amber liquid between the two skins?!! :)

Could you imagine one of these smoking in a bag :( virtually the whole of Lancashire's entire bomb disposal , ambulance , fire engines , tents , people in masks , anti terrorist squad , police were out then for 40 odd people you imagine 25,000 people

It's the same in clubs. As soon as someone see's someone smoking one they think it's a fag. Suddenly you look around and everyone is sparking up real fags, it does cause a problem.

I saw someone smoking one on the North Stand concourse last season after the Newcastle game (I think). A steward came over, saw it had a green end and left him to it.

By the looks of things the steward cocked-up!

But you can tell the difference between an electric and real fag.

can you tell the difference between these two?

Untitled-1.jpg

when you are in a dark club or pub, or stadium concourse, from a distance, it would be difficult to tell the difference, especially since the vapour also looks like smoke.

One of my friends deliberately went for a black eCig, so that it was obvious that it wasn't real. Even so, he occasionally gets funny looks.
As for Czechmate 's concern over problems with erroneous smoke: it doesn't produce smoke, just vapour (which dissipates quickly enough to not look like real smoke).

Personally, I'm against smoking in public places, as I do get problems from second-hand smoke (setting aside the invisible effects, I get headaches when the smoky atmosphere's combined with noise), but since my friend explained and demonstrated his eCig I have no problems with others smoking these in my vicinity.

One of the guys who sits near us in the West Upper has never had a problem smoking an electric ciggy at half time out on the concourse, of course this could be the steward not being aware they are meant to be banned under stadium rules.
