Not really.

Take the combined area of what was Brighton Pavilion and Hove and give it a largely North/South split, rather than East/West at present. Most of Brighton Kemptown joins the western part of Lewes. Eastern Lewes (plus one or two other small bits) becomes Uckfield.

This is all to be consulted upon now and voted upon in Parliament in a couple of years time.

The new split makes a lot more sense as the southern part represents the "inner" city so has a more typical range of issues across its wards, whereas the northern wards could in most cases be described as the "suburbs" The new Lewes constituency will be a right mix though.

I cannot believe this whole process has taken so many years - its been going on for well over 10 years already. The overrepresentation of certain areas of the country has been a bugbear of mine for some time. And 50 or so less MPs - good ridance.

I am really annoyed that Lewes, that has happily sat as a constituency with Newhaven, Peacehaven, Seaford and all the local villages nearby, is now going to have to be stuck onto Brighton just to make the numbers add up. The current Lewes constituency has the right number of people in it already! Come on Norman Baker, oppose these changes. Break the alliance if you have to.

Norman Baker does read NSC doesn't he?
The geography of the changes seems to make little or no sense, but Norman Baker possibly losing his seat due to the wanky government he is part of would be hilarious.
