I remember shortly after Gus joined he proclaimed AEA as the best defender at the club. Moat of us scratched our heads as he went through a torrid time under Adams, constantly backing off and backing off.

It turned out Gus was right. Poyet transformed him into a class act the very next season, and it was absolutely one of the best stories coming out of the club at the time in a glittering season.

Indeed and I think Gus made sure El-Abd got a new contract well ahead of any other players and this was one of the reasons that Nicky Forster fell out with Gus. Am I right in thinking that Forster was kicked off or was refused entry to the team bus?

Brighton factually.....
In this day and age of mercenaries he was the true Roy of the Rovers style local lad come good, who as others have said would run through a brick wall for you and bleeds blue and white blood.

And to be fair, the club did say it wouldn't talk contracts until the end of the season, but then awarded AEA one. That said I believe Adam was always some way behind most players in terms of wages, suffering from being a youth product and only ever playing for us.

Taking into account his type of defending his record for being sent off is very good. A good honest club pro.who will always do his best for the club he is at.

Whenever I hear his name I can't help but go back to 2010 and the absolute job he done on Neil Mellor up at Hillsborough. A wind up merchant of gigantic proportions.

Gus/Tano really turned him into a proper South American style defender-horrible to play against!

Remember the Pompey FA Cup game when they put the Pompey fans in the Withdean Family Stand? I think Adam got 4 or 5 players booked in about 10 minutes.

The two halves of that sentence don't really marry up.

I bloody love Adam El Abd and was gutted when he left here, particularly given the manor of that departure.

I hope once his playing days are out there is a way he can return to the club he so clearly loves.

I like Adam too, and think it's sad the way that things went spectacularly wrong for him after he signed for Brizzle City. However, I do smile at the way some people seem to think that our favourite players should come back to the 'club they love' at the end of their playing days.. If the player is anything other than a competent and qualified coach, what other possibilities are there?

Besides which, do we know that Adam El Abd is still in love with the club?, particularly after the way that he left.

Maybe China beckons then. One way ticket to Shanghai Adam?

So what is the story about him leaving ?

I just thought he had a better chance of 1st team football at Bristol.

Yet there are hints in this thread that he left under a cloud ? ??? ???
