As someone at both matches, U21's and Stoke, I think we need to re-imagine a certain footballing statement.
"If you can survive at an empty Amex on a freezing cold Tuesday night you can survive anywhere"
Only good part, Bovril was hot and on the A27 less then 10 minutes after leaving the stadium.
Some very interesting chat with the away fans, of whom there were a lot.
Having seen the U21's occasionally it is always fun when one of them turns up in the first team. Last night it was the other way round with Hinchy having played all of 3 minutes at Stoke starting for the youngsters.

Don't think we'll see first team regulars drop down, RDZ needs them for his own matches. Those returning from injury however are more likely.

I also think it's a little unfair on those who got us this far to then be dropped for someone who has parachuted in from elsewhere without any academy involvement.

But the side we fielded yesterday is far from our strongest U21, even discounting the loanees and first team. The likes of BBB, Duffus, Peupion, Mullins etc to add in.

Unfair - but it's what the big clubs do when/if they find themselves in the latter stages of the FA Cup or League Cup - and we're a big club in this competition. TBH, I'd have been quite happy to delay the departure for the Middle Eastern holibobs by 48 hours and played a few first teamers last night - they've still got loads of recovery time.

Yes. Given the next round is at the end of Jan, I don't know how many first team players will be back, so these players may still be required to cover. Unless we get in some new players of course.

For those dreaming of Wembley, there is an awful long way to go. Reading looked like a side struggling in the league. They were well organised and stronger, but lacked a cutting edge up front. They were very effective in closing us down and denying our players space, which made it hard to pick out good performers in our side. It was a relief when they took their right back off after 80 minutes as he was just too strong for anyof our youngsters that came near him.

We also had a centre back McConville playing at wing back, which was a challenge for him and the team. MCGill made some good saves including a penatly, but his distribution was sometimes a little wayward. Jackson was well organised and committed, but struggled controlling the ball a couple of times when it went in behind him over his head. Atom had a game to forget and will need to play a lot better than this to make anything of an impression at the club. Likewise Barrington, who looks a decent player, but never looked like he was trying to impress anyone. O'Mahoney got little service, but showed glimpses and is looking stronger every time I see him play.

Considering he was only on the pitch for 11 minutes it seems odd to highlight Joe Knight. He isn't one of these flash players who tricks his way past defenders, but he did come on and start to make things happen. Defensively he seems to be in the right place and anticipates things well. Offensively he started making quick passes in tight spaces which opened up the game for us. He hit his penalty low and hard, but the keeper guessed the right way and made a good save.

Harry Howell made a brief substitue appearance against Lyon, where he was overshadowed by Freddie Simmonds. This time he was brave enough to take the decisive penalty and calmly slotted it home.

And just for the record, no, I'm not seriously expecting that scenario to happen. I would still boost the U21 team with some first teamers though - they're not all needed every game - it is a squad game these days!

Apologies if i was unclear. The tweet says that Harry Howells father, Jamie, married Adams sister. By wording it that way it suggests that Harry was Jamies son by another woman, otherwise you would say that Adams sister was his mother, rather than saying she is Jamies wife. Anyway that's how i read it , hence the bloodline comment.

Obviously I’m delighted for our young players but isn’t this competition meant to be for 3/4 tier clubs.
