When Crystal Palace get relegated ( It will happen) they will move to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

Tbf that’s better than their current home anyway.

Sadly the Crystal Palace athletic track and swimming pool have neglected in recent years, the stadium is a sad site these days. I would love palace to play at the CPAT but it could never happen as Bromley council would never let it.

Obviously the old Wembley was used as many things

In particular Greyhound racing

to the extent they refused to reschedule a meeting during the 1966 World Cup

So France and Uruguay had to play their match at White City

The local NIMBY’s will oppose any plans to regenerate the park, they’d rather it left to rust away.
It costs Bromley Council £2 million a year in maintenance for the Stadium and Sports Centre, a waste of money as it’s being run into the ground.
I saw us play there before, early 1970’s, a pre season friendly against West Ham, and also against Arsenal, if my memory serves me well.
It would be ideal for us to build a new ground, but it will never happen in a million years.

Didn't we play Leicester in thick fog and the first time the away fans realised they'd scored was when their team came running back to their own half to kick off.

I remember away fans chanting "can you tell us if we score?"

I sat in that stand when we played Pompey in the cup. It really was MILES away.

Stamford Bridge was an athletics track first, the Greyhounds kicked the Athletics club out in the 1930's.

I was sitting in the South Stand - it was a novelty to be serenaded with "We can see you holding hands" by Albion fans.

used to go to Gateshead games when I lived in Newcastle. They were in the Northern Prem and Conference North at the time (shortly after went up to the Conference)

it's an odd experience, the stadium is just under 12,000 I think and everyone was in one stand...probably a few hundred fans there. Gateshead is a big place but everyone there supports Newcastle or Sunderland, plus the stadium itself is very unpopular (great for athletics, rubbish for football). I think they've had plans to move to a purpose built football ground for a while. Not sure where they are with that

one bright spot was that the bar was ludicrously cheap (£1 a pint territory). One game I went to was against Kings Lynn who had Julian Joachim in their team, bought him a pint of Boddingtons after the game

Here
and which non-League ground is this hosting speedway in front of a large crowd - and the track still visible today....

At the end of my tether
I remember going to Stamford Bridge in the days of the cinder track, watching players like Osgood , Webb and Bonetti Out in the middle. That was when I was young and impressionable....Don’t forget the London Stadium was designed to be easily dismantled and reduced in size to make a manageable athletic arena. The plan I believe was to move from Crystal Palace To there . Palace F C might have then built a stadium on the site...

Rotherham did indeed play at Don Valley Stadium for a while but it's now been demolished (athletics is held at Woodburn Road now).

The "Olympic Legacy Park" that they have replaced it with is pretty smart though. A school, a college, some tidy sports pitches and next door is the huge English Institue of Sport.

And this is in the middle of one of the less salubrious areas of the city, so they've done a good job. Especially seeing as when the council said they had to close Don Valley (was costing £700k a year and the government had just cut 90% of funding) a lot of people were pretty angry to say the least.
