Any other ageing rockers out there remember Edgar? Played a gig at the Sussex Sports Centre just up from the Clock Tower and I remember trooping all the way up to Devils Dyke circa 1971/2 for a supposed free concert which never materialised.

Didn't they call that place "The Fox" when a band was playing there? I think it was also the same people responsible for Big Apple.

Blimeyl, it was Deep Purple yesterday, today it's the Edgar Broughton Band. Have I slipped into a time machine or something.

What next: Blodwyn Pig?

Blimey, Having not discussed it for years my mate and I were only talking about this only last week! We'd also heard about the free gig, but by the time the news had filtered through to Lancing the venue was supposed to be Brighton sea front! After a group of us had wandered along the seafront fruitlessly for a couple of hours somebody casually mentioned that he'd heard it was going to be up the Dyke not on the beach, so we tried to get to get a bus up there. Can't remember what happened but my mate and I gave up and went home. I was about 14 so yeah, it was around about 1971 or '72.

I saw them do a short free gig from the back of a lorry in Churchill Square. Possibly in the summer of 1970.

I think they got arrested for that and were at Hove Law Courts the next day. (memory maybe dodgy as only 10 at the time )

We all sat on the floor it was very primitive but still a great gig. I also saw Caravan play there and bought In the Land of Grey and Pink from the merchandise stall. Happy days.:)

still have the ticket for that gig for some reason. 6 shillings (30p) at the Dome. Do you remember another 6 bob gig with Lindisfarne Audience, and Loudon Wainwright 111?

Didn't go to it, but HEARD it - wasn't that 1970? I think the reason I didn't gp was that I'd spent all my money on tickets for the Isle of Wight (Hendrix, The Who, Leonard Cohen plus supporting cast.........)

I was at the aborted Edgar Broughton gig. I also witnessed his appearence at Brighton magistrates court the following day. The two Charisma concerts featured 3 bands both evenings. The tickets cost 30p. The 6 bands were Genesis, Every Which Way (Brian Davidson, ex drummer of Nice) , Audience, Jackson Heights (Lee Jackson, Ex Nice bassist), Van der Graaf Generator & Rare Bird. Only god knows how I managed to remember that, but I know that was the definitive line up. I'm going to have to lie down now. My brain hurts.

Edgar Broughton did play at The Big Apple circa 1971. He previously played at the Dome in 1969. They had to turn the power off to stop him from playing. I wasn't there.
