For those of a certain generation, EW and Stuart Hall on It's a Knockout were absolutely hilarious. Some of the 'games' with people in silly costumes doing absolutely stupid things and getting whacked, wet or winded was just priceless and the infectious laughter of Stuart Hall was just brilliant.

I think I was too young to appreciate it at the time, but a lot of the 'games' involved young ladies in T shirts getting sprayed with water and hitting each other with pillows or inflatables.

I remember watching that game on Grandstand as a kid. The dog always kept behind the play and at conversions it would lie down waiting for the kick to take place. Once the ball was kicked it would immediately get up and run around.

You certainly wouldn't get that in todays game.

Did no-one make any effort to try and catch the dog?

No, the ref and the players just got on with the game. The dog never got in the way so nobody worried about it. If my memory serves me right they never found out who owned the dog or where it came from.
