Sad news. I loved playing Eddie Spotting up and down the motorways back in the day.

At Eddie’s insistence, his drivers were always immaculately turned out in shirts and ties.

RIP Eddie.
True about his drivers, however they were not very good at driving. Still see a few of his trailers and units around although most belong to Cullina who brought Eddie Stobart out.

Look out for WS logistics or haulage, that's William Stobart.

Is this the same Eddie though? It seems that whilst the one who died did start the company it was his son, also called Eddie, who took over the company in 1974 and made it into the hauling behemoth we know.

Eddie junior, as you say, made the business what it became. He died in 2011.
Maybe this is why his father’s death took so long to appear in the press? He was the founder but little else it seems. Further reading suggests they only had 7 trucks and was a local business when Jnr took over.

I have vague recollections of his funeral. I think lorries were involved - and I know there were 'thousands lining the streets'.
