Indeed, and partly my point. I'm sure he didn't come out as either transgender or transsexual back in the 80s. How they define themselves is obviously up to them, I'm only questioning the facts about when they came out as one thing or another.

It was panned in the Guardian a few days ago though apparently it went down a storm in New York. It’s a pretty incredible feat of memory, regardless.
