Lorraine Kelly says 'sorry' to Eddie Izzard for pronoun use

A POPULAR talk show host has apologised after using the wrong pronouns when talking to a transgender comedian.

Lorraine Kelly said sorry after referring to Eddie Izzard as "he" rather than "she" during a Good Morning Britain interview. The TV star, who lives in Bexhill, was talking about a new 31 marathon challenge - following on from a similar feat five years ago.

During a television appearance last year, the 58-year-old requested people use female pronouns.

Lorraine apologised after using "he" and "his" when talking to the comedian and said sorry "if I get it wrong".

She said: "Can I apologise to you if I get it wrong because we're still just going along with it?"

Still in Brighton
On the slowest of slow news days in the slowest newsroom on the slowest planet, population 1, this would still be non news.

edit - just to clarify, I don't really care if Eddie would like me to address him as she /her etc because I would if asked, no probs. I'd undoubtedly get it wrong at first many times because it's habitual and would take time to change. He'd (there oops, did it) have to accept that without offense imo. But really, it's not newsworthy for Lorraine (god awful woman) to publicly apologise.

I wasn’t aware she prefers She. I always thought she maintained she was a man who liked woman’s clothing. But good to see this highlighted on television. The more we see it the less narrow minded folk are empowered. And well done LK for the apology, good stuff. It can take a bit of time for others to adjust.

If someone has gender reassignment surgery then fine: she.

But a man in a dress out for attention can **** off.

Big words. I’d love to see you telling someone to **** off IRL for this reason.

Ok, bring Eddie Izzard round and I’ll tell him to **** off. It’ll be a pleasure.

Still, here’s a question for you. If Eddie died and was stripped and placed on a slab in a morgue, what sex would the doctor doing the autopsy say he was?

Yeah sure.

It’s not about physical appendages, it’s about what someone prefers to be called.

Genuine question, if somebody wants to be called She, He, They, or X, why is that such a problem?
What possible difference could it make to your life?

You chose a user name for NSC.

if sex isn’t biological then what is it?

And it doesn’t just stop with pronouns, does it?

Sex is biological.
Gender is not (just) biological.

I bellive there may be information available on all this somewhere on the internet.

It’s about gender, not sex.

But okay, you don’t agree with it. Fine. We are all made up differently. Would you not perhaps concede that telling someone to “**** off” because of it is a little OTT?

I work with someone and they prefer a neutral pronoun. Them or They. Or just their name. It’s surprising how little it actually comes up. For example, I just described a person I work with and never once mentioned a specific gender.

And I have never once had the urge to tell them to **** off.

Yet you paused to comment.

Laid up with a ****ed Achilles’ tendon right now. Ice and heat treatment. Hence replying to this kind of idiocy.

It’s about gender, not sex.

But if a fully-equipped man insists that his jail sentence is in Holloway? Or that he should be allowed into a women’s spa or changing room?

At best, it’s just pandering to narcissism. At worst, the above examples could turn very nasty.

But of course we’re now living in a madhouse where everything that was accepted until a couple of years ago is now bigoted and fascistic and fools trip over themselves to virtue signal how right on they are.

Of course it's not simple.
Some people want it to be simple, but it isn't, it's complex.

I find that complexity interesting, challenging and in many ways rather wonderful

Some people find it threatening, but I don't understand why.

Whatever they ask me to use, which has so far included he, she or they.
Who cares?

Quite. It's no surprise the types on here that make a big deal out of it. It's really entry level stuff. As you say, who cares!
